S55 Firmware V0.8

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: hanshantson

Hi,

It seems that the V0.8 firmware for the S55 is becoming available. Is their anyone how knows where I can download it ?

Thx

Posted by: DWIM

- Where did you find out about this next fw version? Features? Any URL references for associated info?

- While probably not significant, I noticed you said 0.8. All I have seen uses something w/o the '.'. For example, 04 or 05 or 06.

Thanks.

Where can we download this new firmware?

Is this what you're talking about

http://www.gsm-multifund.com/update.htm

Posted by: DWIM

Yes, that's the URL I knew about.

But when I first saw the post about 08, I checked there & it wasn't showing. Just checked again & it's not there 'now'.

That's why I asked the 08 poster.

Posted by: ethune

Does anyone know if v08 fixes the issue with the phone not being able to make calls in certain att locations?

Thanks!

Posted by: NL4J

Anyone?

Posted by: DWIM

Maybe too early to tell... No reply yet about where 08 is. Not (yet) at gsm-multifund (or somewhere else if anyone knows?).

I'm just waiting; it'll clear up in a little while I'd guess.

Posted by: Siemensinfo.de

08 is only avail. if you have deeper siemens connections

tested it now and it seems to fix some problems... sorry but i can not test your ATT problem. its not avail. in germany.

BTW WAP Browser has a new version number

Posted by: DWIM

Well... If those 'deeper connections' were to make avail 08, I'd be willing to test the AT&T connectivity. Of course, given it doesn't seem to be released in a more public place, I'd also have to agree to not disperse it further. Integrity, you know.

Oops, English lang would be helpful, should that be an issue.

Posted by: Siemensinfo.de

sorry no way... Siemens is a little nervous at the moment.

what exactly are thes ATT problems?

Posted by: DWIM

Sorry, didn't mean to imply / request anything improper...

AT&T problem: Has been discussed in other threads... Basically, there appears to be a problem with using the S55 in the US CA SF Bay area. One can neither initiate nor receive voice calls. One can see 'AT&T Wireless' on the screen, can get notification about there being voice mail in your box, can rcv SMS, but NO voice calls. Appears to be a config problem with AT&T's central cell equipment in this specific area. Other AT&T areas seem to be covered. TMobile in this area works fine. To my knowledge, just AT&T in this area doesn't work.

So there's a set of us w/S55s in this area who are waiting for the proverbial 'someone' with enough clout to get this researched properly & fixed. Anyone traveling to the San Francisco area intending to use this phone (S55) with AT&T will be unable to use it for voice.

Calls / email contact with both AT&T & Siemens (several attempts!) yield no results: AT&T replies with they don't support that phone & Siemens doesn't even reply to questions initiated thru their web page.

Some have posted that we should wait until Siemen's next phone comes out (the S56 I think, but may not remember that correctly). It has been posted that when AT&T supports that phone, the S55 will be supported as well.

Posted by: NL4J

Siemensinfo.de,

Are you joking?

Are you going to help us get version 0.8 or not? Don't come here to post crap like "for those with deep connections"

Posted by: Siemensinfo.de

ok then I leave it.

hanhantson asked for it and I answered him. Ask him how he knew abou FW 08

The probs with AT&T are pretty well documented in other posts.

Apparently the S55 is not working on the 1900mhz AT&T GSM network base stations that are of Ericsson manufacture. It works fine on parts of the AT&T network that have Nortel base stations.

This means right now the phone is not working in entire regions of the AT&T network. This is a factor that has caused many NOT to buy this phone if they are on AT&T as Siemens has said nothing about a fix. AT&T support claims the problem can probably only be fixed by Siemens, as all other phones seem to work on the network just fine.

i try to ask some people

Posted by: jmpage2

This is even documented in Howard Chui's review of the S55 at this very site (well, www.howardchui.com anyway).

That would be great, please let us know if you find out anything!

Posted by: NL4J

It works with T-Mobile perfect. I love the phone

Posted by: Synncere

Is anyone else using the s55 on TMobile? I will be in the US soon and instead of roaming onto Cingular as usual I will be using my friends Tmobile Sim... just curious if anyone has had probs with the s55 on Tmobiles network or no?

Posted by: mantis5

The S55 is working great on T-Mobile. The only problems I have had have been with T-Mo's network, which is Cingular's towers in California and Nevada. When the network is good, the phone is great.

Posted by: halfempty

So, can anyone confirm if this fixes the AT&T / FIDO network issues.

Thanks.

Posted by: DWIM

As other(s) probably know, upgrading FW to 05 doesn't fix the AT&T problem. So if someone can reference where to get the 'beyond 05' FW version, I'll try. Use PM for d/l location if you'd rather, for whatever reasons.

Posted by: NL4J

I am anxiously waiting for my USB/Serial adapter from Belkin, so I can do the update! I'll post after I do the update and let you guys know if I notice any difference

Posted by: jmpage2

Hmmmm... been a week and no response yet from our Siemen friend. I wonder if they have yet investigated the issue with the phone not working on much of the AT&T GSM network.

Posted by: mantis5

I will hazard a guess that they are trying to solve the problem. AT&T in NA would be a big potential market. I think the silence indicates it is not as easy to fix as we have been hoping. Let's hope I'm wrong.

Posted by: NL4J

No the silence is not from Siemens, but from AT&T.

AT&T GSM network is still adapting in the US and is interfering and causing problems with T-Mobile. Heard this information when I had some little issues and the customer care guy explained it to me ...

Posted by: mantis5

Yes, I've been told that by T-Mobile CC before.

I have generally been treated very well by T-Mobile CC, and I like them and want T-Mobile to do well, but I do think it's a little too convenient for them to say AT&T is stepping on their bandwidth.

Who really knows? That's an invitation.

Posted by: hecatae

here

not going to try it but it is there.

Posted by: Synncere

Thx for the post. I don't know about all of you but this is me I think I'll play it safe... I like what I got now. How about all of you?

Posted by: hecatae

last siemens i tried to self update I killed

Not doing that again, going to see if the service centre will upgrade it.

Posted by: Synncere

is that an official release?

Posted by: hecatae

dont know.

not trying it, is at own risk.

Posted by: fidodido

I will try it as long as I got home. 4 Hours left, I'm anxious.

Posted by: ocmer

I'm getting excited about this new FW! But I still don't have the guts to do this upgrade!

Posted by: Synncere

Anyone that does the fw upgrade... nuff props for havin' the b***s to do so! I like many are afraid to do so but please post the results of the upgrade I am really curious to know how it goes. If everyone that does gets positive results then I think I'll take the plunge and do it aswell

Posted by: jimersen

i just upgraded to 7 so far only noticed bluetooth works better and in the call records part they got rid of the smiley faces on the left of the if u had a record in one now their arrows and it seems to run a little faster. will play with it tomorrow to find out anything else i had 5 before

Posted by: [MDS]

does the earpiece sound louder...???

btw, does anyone know where to get a blank logo? i got one of the color themes, ironically my favorite, it has a blank logo for some reason, so i don't have tmo on my screen, but in case i want to change it to another one later, the tmo comes up, so i wonder if there any place to get the blank logo... please tell if anyone knows... tia...

Posted by: DWIM

If anyone cares, V7 still does NOT correct the ATW CA SF Bay area problem. 'Course since I have this problem, I can't yet use the phone for voice so there's not much point to using it for anything else.

So I'm back to my R520m & my (recently) unlocked & FW upgraded t68i (r3c -> r6b)

FWIW: About the t68i. I see I get 2 more bars of reception.

But this is a Siemens forum. And I'm still waiting for the ATW reconfig so I can use the S55.

Posted by: baker

I just updated to Version 7. The update looks like the official one Siemens and it worked fine. You guys should not have any trouble updating the FW. The program will even find the com port automatically.

I have not found any real changes yet but it is around 1:30 AM and there is no one to call to try it out

Posted by: Synncere

Baker pls post and let us know how it works after making some calls.

MDS... if you're looking for a blank logo to cover up the opp logo ask Molna I got mine from him.

In which ways you claim your Bluetooth works better ? I have upgraded, and I have not noted a change on it. Of course, it have been only 1 hour since I upgraded.

Even after upgrading to Ver 7. I still don't understand why BT does not work the way it works with an Ericsson T68. I have a T68 and a HBH 30 and when I dial out on the T68, the HBH30 connects automatically. On the S55 with HBH 30, after I dial out with the S55 I have to press the button on the HBH 30 to hear the call through the HBH 30. Is there a setting on the S55 BT menu to allow the call to be connected automatically?

Could someone let me know because it is really annoying to be usingthe HBH30 while driving and havingto press the button on my ear each time to hear sounds through the BT head set. Sorts of defeats the purpose doesn't it?

Thanks guys

Not sure Baker........ in menu 9-9-2-1 all I see is an option fot auto answer with the headset

Posted by: fla

Is there anyone ot there that can send me or tell me where I can download the nordic version of the firmware version 7 or later. The nordic version is lg 02.

Posted by: hecatae

version 08 is back on multifund

Posted by: icuvist

Anybody actually install this yet onto their phone and what's the difference?

Posted by: Synncere

Do some searches in this forum... I read in here about 08 and someone that installed it did a post on it...

Posted by: hecatae

a friend has upgraded from v04 to v08

Orange MMS did not work on v04, he could not receive, he can receive with v08.

The download is also an official update tool from an unofficial source.

And my connection stops at 2.74mb out of 6.5mb

Posted by: sdp33

Since installing v05 I noticed that under Bluetooth - Known Devices the "add new device" option is gone.
I have just installed v08 and it's still the same.
More over, after pairing the phone with the headset (the phone confirmed the pairing and labeled the headset as a trusted device), all the phone shows under "Known Devices" is the laptop.
On the other hand, the headset works perfectly.

Posted by: baker

I update to Ver 8 this morning and have not seen any real changes except for the ability to do a selftest if you enter *#06# then hit info. I don't know if it was there before but now there is a self test.

No other real things except that I cannot log onto the ATT network in Irvine, CA. However I could not with previous firmware either. But that could be because T-Mobile is around in the same market. (I have T-Mobile)

The issue about BT not automatically opening a connection to the headset when dialing out is still there.

Posted by: ocmer

FW08 is now also available on Siemens Developer Village. I updated my s55 with this one and it works just fine. No loose of warranty too!

Posted by: Synncere

@ baker-------- I am in Canada but travel to US often... and use Cingular when I am there...... since I won't be able to use AT&T and the Bt issue is the same would you reccomend just staying with the same s/w or no? IMO it's not worth it if all I can really do is do a self test... would it be better to wait for a newer load and upgrade then?

Posted by: miker

I also updated my S55 to v08 with no significant differences and no problems in the update also. It was quite straightforward however I noticed that all of the OpenWave browser profile setting were reset. Actual Connection settings were retained as was the address book and appointments, inbox etc.

To transfer a call from the handset to a Bluetooth headset I select the number and after pressing Yes to initiate the call I press the headset button. After the standard three beeps, the call appears in the headset. It has worked this way in v05 also.

Cheers Mike

Posted by: baker

Synncere,

Cingular seems to work fine on the S55. There does not seem to be any issue with ver 8. You might as well update to the latest firmware since there my be some updates that are not obvious at first glance.

I usually keep the older firmware on my computer in case something in the newer version screws up my phone.

I also have a Cingular account and occasionally will use the Cingular sim with my S55 with no problems at all.

Hope that help but just PM me if you need any specific info about California when your are in the US.

Posted by: Synncere

@ Baker....... will do. Thx I appreciate it

v.09 now available on the same site!
