going from sp5 -> mpx220

I've had my sp5 for a week -- it's my first smartphone. As an old pocket pc PDA user the move to a smartphone was exactly what I wanted in terms of syncing to outlook reliably and easily.

However it turns out I'm just not a candybar form factor kind of guy. I prefer the slightly smaller clamshell phones. So it looks like the MPX220 is the only option (for < $250 US). I see a ton of them on eBay for about $135.

What will I be missing aside from:

dude... you're going more than 2 generations back!!
sp3 was the mpx220's competence... still it was lotsa better!

the mpx 220 only offers a few positive the ability store more applets on the phone its self the ability change sd cards with out switching off the phone ansd dismantling it

if wifi is not a problem and ou can live with out loads of added applets but want the latest rom nd a flip go with the qtek 8500 it WM5 but as it uses micro sd not mini sd the extra storage is not as big and the phone storage sucks big style as does all WM5 phones sporting 64 mb or less of memory.

Screen Resolution will be a HUGE step down on the MPX220. Once you have seen QVGA on the current generation of Smartphones, then MPX220 will just looking depressing. IMO I would stick with the SP5 or if you NEED to have a flip get a Qtek 8500.

Not to mention the issues with the MPx220. I went through 4 of them, B4 I complained to Cingular and they exchanged it for ever!

motorola makes the worst phones in the world, i don't know why people even use them.

Don't know if I agree with that. The SLVR seems to be a good phone, I've had it since December or so.

go for the str trek... mpx220 is cheap, and the reason are ALL THE FLAWS IT HAS!
The most annoying one is the DEEP LOW IN CALL VOLUME, no one hears you and you hear nothing unless you're completely alone in a room.

The reason the mpx220 is cheap is because it is old, not because it sucks. In fact for a phone this old to still be going for over $200 new means it has more than a few admirers.

It's far from perfect though. Ring volume and the camera sucks. I've personally never had a problem with the call volume being too low.

It also isn't the sturdiest phone, I've dropped mine on carpet from 5 feet and I was worried that would be enough to do it in. It survived but I wouldn't want to try my luck.

You'll be using an older OS, have a lower resolution screen, have a physically smaller screen (2.0" vs 2.2"), lose EDGE, and possibly suffer from one of the many issues the phone has demonstrated (low call volume, etc).

if you reboot it (MPX220) every day at a set time as i did with mine and still do as the wife now uses it it will work and work and work its damn good phone provided its given the care it needs theyre many programs out there that will do the reset at a set time each day for you so you can forget about it and just use it as you would any other phone incall volume is not a problem hearing the phone ring however is
