VX8300 won't work over USB -- with BitPim at least...

I bought a USB data cable on eBay. It came with a software CD. The cable works fine, as I plug it into the phone and Windows immediately recognizes that a new device is connected. So I tried installing the software on the CD, including the VX8300 drivers and BitPim, and after Windows was all done installing the drivers, I tried opening BitPim, and it failed to detect the phone.

I tried connecting the phone to different USB ports and even tried connecting to it over bluetooth (via my laptop's bluetooth), all to no avail. So I tried installing the LG software http://us.lge.com/download/product/...Eng_Ver_4.5.exe, and after doing so, Windows said that the installation had failed, and BitPim would still not detect the phone.

So I am perplexed. How do I get this darned thing to work? Success stories anyone?

I had no problem getting all my ringtones off of my old VX6000, but now I need to load them into my 8300!!

I bought a usb adapter from ebay too for my vx8300. It was marked for 'vx7000,' but after I cut down the middle tab, it worked fine (with a little forcing). I downloaded bitpim from sourceforge.net and got the driver for the vx8000 from the last link on this page: http://us.lge.com/support/patch.html

You have to run the .exe and then plug in your phone through the usb adapter. I'm running XP, which auto-detected the device and prompted me to install a driver. I chose to look in a specific folder and browsed over to c://program files/ lg/ usb modem drivers or something similar that was chosen when I ran the .exe You have to do this two times. The first installs the usb driver, the second time installs the port driver. YOu should be prompted for both. Afterwards, BitPim autodetected well and I successfully copied .wma and .mp3 files over to my phone (for .mp3 first create "my_mp3" folder under mmc1) using the filesystem browser's drag and drop interface. It takes a loooong time to upload even a small song, so drag a drop a bunch at once to upload overnight.

Thanks a lot dude! I think my problem was that once I ran the .exe file and plugged in my phone, I chose to install drivers off the included CD (that I got from eBay with my cable), rather than the ones at C:\program files\lg\usb modem drivers. Now it's all up and running, so thanks!

When you installed the drivers did you get an error message stating that the software has not been tested or something like that.

I have the same setup as you; however, I cant seem to connect to my phone.

If you get that message it's basically saying the drivers haven't been certified by microsoft. If you know they are from a trusted provider it's fine to go ahead and install them. You should click the "continue anyways" option to correctly install the drivers.

ok I run Mac Os X latest version of it. I need drivers for mac anyone seen them cause i'm having the same issues. the Drivers have to be in .dmg format

It sounds like you were fine connecting the VX6000, this seems like its the connection with the VX8300, the data cable is different and doesnt always work with the new VX8300 from what I have been told and seen, I purchased one that said was designed for the 8300 and it worked just fine

Where can I find the Verizon drivers, I had it on a cd and lost the cd. It came with the cable for music downloads.

I followed numerous walkthroughs to get this USB cable working and nothing is doing the trick. I'm running winxp2, using the driver stated above, and it doesn't know what my phone is. after telling the pc that its a modem it asks for the disk, when i go to c:/programs/lg/lg drivers/?? it tells me that the file i chose does not have any of my device info in it. Am i rediculously retarded or is it this damn phone? I got the cable from ebay, and came with a cd that is no help at all. the cord is for my phone, just can't get my pc to do it's thing.
HELP !!!!!

We have stock on the proper VX-8300 USB Cable

http://www.portwireless.com/cat--LG...--LGVX8300.html

No need to wrestle with an outdated cable. This one has the latest LG connector on it. Works with BitPim as well as Verizon software.

I also had to do this:
From the Settings & Tools menu, go to <Call Settings>then <Connections> then <USB> and hit OK. It should pop up a "CONNECTION SET" message, then bitpim was able to detect it.

I'm having the same problem as Eclipse_storm. I ran the exe file to unpack the drivers. I then connected my phone via the USB cable. Windows (2000 in my case) detected the new VCAST phone but when I pointed the driver installation to the LG USB Drivers it says that no suitable device driver was found. I have tried 3 different sets of drivers and I have also "set" the USB connection in the phone menu. What am I missing?

I finally got this to work!

I had no luck with the drivers downloaded from LG and I know other ppl have been saying to get the driver from the igonemobile website but that didn't work for me either.

I finally revisited that page and looked more closely. I had downloaded the USB driver that was shown as specific to the VX8300. Since I was out of ideas I decided to try the driver that is shown for almost every other LG phone EXCEPT the VX8300.

It worked like a charm! I ran the executable file and it went through a rather involved installation process. I then plugged in my phone and it detected as an LG CDMA device, installed the modem driver, USB port, etc with no further interaction from me.

Naturally, now that Windows can see the phone BitPim now auto detects it right away!

If you are still having trouble getting your VX8300 USB drivers installed go to http://www.igonemobile.com/downloads/index.aspx and download the driver labeled "LG USB Drivers - For the majority of LG phones..."

Thanks for this hint. I have been pulling my hair out for the last few hours. I connected my phone and it worked, did my girlfriends phone, and it worked, reconnected mine- it did not. I have been uninstalling and reinstalling drivers on my computer and tried my girlfriends computer to no avail. Just had to hit a button in a menu.

Thanks agian.

I am new to this forum and my goal is to obtain free or low cost software and drivers to upload pictures from my LG 8100 to my PC and then download some of these pix to my new LG 8300. I have a USB data cable but now need the software. Thanks for your assistance with this request. Alan R

Like everybody else I got screwed by Verizon and need to downgrade my flash to old version that let me use my phone. All we all need is the old software.

Looks like new builds of BitPim do not have USB support. This means that straight USB cables will not work, but USB cables that have a USB-to-serial module (the little blob in the middle) will work.
Following the instructions on http://www.bitpim.org/developer.html I managed to build BitPim on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) with USB support so that my straight cable works without any extra drivers. Unfortunately, I don't know how to make a Mac .app package that I can distribute for people who don't feel like going through the trouble of building BitPim.
For people who do have a cable with a USB-to-serial module, you need drivers (usually from Prolific) whether or not BitPim has USB support, and you need to set your phone's diagnostics port ("diag") to RS232 rather than USB.
Also, I don't think BitPim cannot access the phone through the modem port. So if you detect ports in BitPim and you do not see the diagnostics port, something is wrong.

You should be able to get a later version directly from BitPim's web site.

Correct. I have used Bitpim w/ my vx8300 w/ the most current firmware. It worked like a dream. Just download it from Bitpim.org
