(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: aboyd1103

Has anyone been able to set up the e-mail client on the D900 to work successfully with Gmail? I have the POP settings and all, but can't seem to make it connect. Looking for any insight from the pros....

Posted by: bvic01

i have it working on my phoen right now. Are you sure your internet settings on your phone are correct under your current email profile? Do you have POP enabled on your gmail account?

POP is enabled on my gmail account for sure. The internet settings are set for Tzones.
Account name: Gmail
User name:full e-mail address (username@gmail.com)
E-mail address: full e-mail address (username@gmail.com)
Reply address: full e-mail address (username@gmail.com)
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP port: 587
SMTP user ID: - blank right now - no idea? should something be here?
SMTP password: - blank right now - no idea? should something be here?
Secure connection: this is checked
Retrieve server type: POP3
POP3 Server: pop.gmail.com
POP3 Port: 995
Same ID and password: this is checked - any ideas? maybe it shouldn't be?
APOP login: - no idea. not checked. should it be? what is APOP?
Secure connection (POP3): this is checked

Then all settings saved. I got my settings here: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/...3287&topic=1555

Can you look at your phone and tell me what settings you have that are allowing this to work please?

Thanks so much!

I see your problem. Change your username from your full address to just the first part (for example: instead of abc@gmail.com just use abc...This part should work either way, i just know my works without the @gmail.com.) Also, the part causing your phone not to work is the SMTP username and password. For your SMTP username type in your FULL address so if your username was abc then you would type in abc@gmail.com for the SMTP username. As for your SMTP password, it is the same as your login password for your gmail account. Good luck, lemme know if it works for you. And that box under POP that says something like use same username and password should be checked.

Have you tried sending mail? Normally, T-Mobile requires you to use their outbound smtp server

Posted by: aboyd1103

Haven't tried sending yet... Hmmm... Will try later. Not sure what you mean, though about using the outbound SMTP server...

Posted by: 2phast

Your settings posted use gmails smtp server (outbound) I found that T-Mobile does not allow this, thus, I had to use their smtp server for outbound. Just wondering if that was still the case or if they now allow you to use other providers smtp for outbound email.

Create a new email and send it to a different account, like hotmail and see if it arrives.

Posted by: HaSteveHa

What settings are we supposed to use then

You're right. Doesn't send. So what are the right SMTP server settings to send e-mail?

Hey 2phast...Can you post whatever outbound SMTP server settings you are using that actually send e-mail from the D900?

Has anyone figured out the SMTP settings to send email from the Samsung D900? My settings are all correct to get my mail through Gmail, but I can't send anything.

Does anyone have any insight???

Thanks!

Posted by: Claytsuk

I tend to use the gmail web interface which works well. Dont make your password too complicated as for some reason it doesn't like it.

Posted by: aboyd1103

I can use the web interface for Gmail just fine. I am trying to figure out how to use Gmail as my e-mail client on my phone... I can receive, but not send, and someone mentioned that it had something to do with SMTP settings, but no one has ever been willing to POST those settings.

Its not hard to do a search on google:

http://mail.google.com/support/bin/...pe=f&ctx=search

I am sure this is all anyone else could have told you...

Posted by: elemeno

i've tried all this, no good. Anyone?

Posted by: elemeno

Could I acsess outlook express from the d900?

Posted by: aboyd1103

No - the point is that someone said - and was correct - that while these settings work fine to receive mail, it is impossible to send mail with these settings. The message never goes. Someone said you have to use T-Mobile's SMTP settings, and while I have google searched those, I just wanted someone to confirm. Thanks!

Posted by: elemeno

alright heres a total noob question, Do I have to pay extra for the ability 2 check my email through cingular. My WAP is set up.

Posted by: tifosichris

Nope, i think it just counts as data. So however many bytes you use or whatever will be what it is

Posted by: elemeno

yeah thats what I thought, I gotta figure out how to acsess my mail. I tried everything I read on here and nada.

Posted by: carbon gecko

Im with him....
I cant figure out the email settings for cingular either.

I'm even willing to give up trying to figure out specifically Gmail. I now just need to understand how to retrieve e-mail AT ALL on the D900...?

Weird. Please help!

Posted by: elemeno

^In the first page you said u could recieve with the settings u had? If so what r the exact settings plez. This is really starting to get frustrating

Posted by: elemeno

Alright I FINALLY GOT MY GMAIL TO WORK. I figured out that I did'nt have my email profile set up, so here are ALL of my settings.

Email Accounts

Account name- Gmail
User name- your name (example if your address is 123@gmail, then your user name is 123)
Email address- your full address (ex. 123@gmail.com)
reply address- your full address (ex. 123@gmail.com)

SMTP server- smtp.gmail.com
SMTP port- 465
SMTP user ID- username@gmail.com (ex. 123@gmail.com)
SMTP password- your email password
secure connection- checked
retreiver server type- pop3
pop3 server- pop.gmail.com
pop3 port- 995
same ID & password- checked
ADOP login- UNchecked
secure connection- checked

Now the Email Profile

Profile name- Cingular
APN- wap.cingular
Login ID- WAP@CINGULAR.COM
Password- CINGULAR1
DNS1- 66.209.11.32
DNS2- 66.209.11.61

FINALLY make sure that both of these profiles are saved and set as the current profiles.

This works to retrieve AND send email to a Gmail account.

Now if I could figure out how to forward my school email to my gmail account I'd be set.

Posted by: aboyd1103

It works it works it works!!! Thank you so much! You are a true rock star, elemeno!

Posted by: HaSteveHa

what are the settings to do with for Tmobile??
Thanks

Posted by: 2phast

A simple search of this forum or google would net the results your looking for. I used these settings on my SP3I without issue. No password/user name required for T-mobiles smtp server, as the email originates from their network.

Protocol: POP3
User ID: gmail username (without the @gmai.com)
Password: your gmail password
Sending host: myemail.t-mobile.com
Sending port: 25
Receiving host: pop.gmail.com
Receiving port: 995

I have read all the wiki's and done all the searches but I still cannot get email to work. I have setup many phones in the past but the d900 seems to be giving me trouble. I need help on this one. Can anyone share some expertise on how to configure t-mobile email to work on the d900? I have wap working and can run opera mini with no problem. Thanks

Posted by: TLCC

am I the only t-mobile user with a d900?

Posted by: ka6r9en

I am having problems accessing gmail, and have followed all the posts on this thread
I noticed from elemeno's post that the email profile needs setting up, i got the settings from o2 but I haven't received the DNS 1 and 2 numbers/addresses.
Is anyone else on o2, can you let me have your settings for gmail and the d900. Thanks

Posted by: ithinkdancan

i am also a T-mobile d900 user and i am having trouble settting up bothe gmail and my own server's email.

i always get back the following error: "Email server access error"

I was able to retrieve mail from my own server once after setting it up, but it has since failed everytime.

any other tips would be great

I would like to know - what are the correct INTERNET settings under the email profile, after I have correctly configured my Gmail account.

I keep getting a DNS error using 172.25.0.172

Posted by: ithinkdancan

im using 216.155.165.50

http://tmobileus.wdsglobal.com/phonefirst

that link may help as well.

Posted by: OZLancer

I forgot to mention I'm on the Rogers network in Canada. From furhter research I've noticed the DNS's are supposed to be left blank, while the email will use the IP address you specify in the active (current) WAP profile.

With this said, I still get a DNS error. To troubleshoot I PURPOSELY tried entering the wrong Gmail (account profile) settings, and I indeed recieved a different error message "Email Server Error". Once I correct the Gmail settings, I go back to recieving the "DNS Error" after I see the "E" flashing.

Taken from a previous post, I notice Cingular provides this DNS. Does Rogers not ALSO provide one?:

"Now the Email Profile

Profile name- Cingular
APN- wap.cingular
Login ID- WAP@CINGULAR.COM
Password- CINGULAR1
DNS1- 66.209.11.32
DNS2- 66.209.11.61"

**EDIT: My WAP and MMS both work perfectly**

Posted by: ps2wiz

Does no one know the E-mail Profile settings for T-Mobile? I already have the Gmail settings setup.

Try the one in this thread.

**T-Mobile USA + D500 = WAP/MMS Problems/Solutions **

Okay, so I've copied the email account settings for Gmail, but now I need to know the email PROFILE for the old AT&T on the Samsung D900. Does anyone know what to put in there? I keep getting the email fail message...

Also, shot in the dark, but does anyone know the proper TEXT MESSAGE settings for the old AT&T sim card on this phone? Everytime I get a text more than one text long, instead of sending say, 3 or 4 texts like it would on my Samsung e316, each of which had to be opened individually, I get an "Incomplete Text" text message, followed by ONLY the first text's worth of message. It's driving me INSANE! It happens mostly with international text messages, but I NEVER had this problem with international texts on my e316. Please help - it's driving me NUTS!

Thats for Cingular, whats the T-Mobile equivalent for those settings?

Posted by: marcsgirl

And the AT&T?

Posted by: Kit Fox

See, this is the thing, it seems no one has any idea what the above settings should be for T-Mobile.

Posted by: jmhijazi

tell me about it, listen is the DNS field suppose to be empty, or is there a ip thats suppose to be in there!

Posted by: Kit Fox

Not sure. I think somethings supposed to be there. Cingular phones seem to be the only ones that are working

Once your request has been posted, it's pretty annoying to keep getting emails, thinking someone might have posted something useful, like a solution, only to see that you've just decided to post again. I promise your last two posts are still appearing on the screen.

HAHAHA!!!!

Profile Name: T-Mobile Internet
APN: wap.voicestream.com
Login ID: (blank)
Password: (blank)
DNS1: 0.0.0.0
DNS2: 0.0.0.0

There you go. finally T-Mobile users can send emails out.

Here is a brief instruction on how to set up the G-MAIL accounts for T-Mobile users.

Go to your home screen, go to menu, 5,5,3,2,1. Type in G-mail, or whatever you want to name your account, dosn't matter, but G-Mail is what I have and seems pertinent. Select Next. Username type in the first part of your username, for example my email is 123456@gmail.com, so I just typed in 123456. For email address type in your full address, 123456@gmail.com, for example, type in the same thing for reply address. Select next. For the SMTP server type in 'smtp.gmail.com' (no single quotes around it) for the SMTP port type in '465' (no single quotes around it) for SMTP user ID type in your full email address again '123456@gmail.com' (no quotes) SMTP password is your normal G-Mail password. Select Secure Connection (SMTP) so the box is checked. Make sure that the retrieve server type is POP3. For the POP3 Server type in 'pop.gmail.com' For POP3 port type in 995. Select "SAME ID and Password" so its checked. Unselect APOP login so it isn't checked. Select Secure connection (POP3) And save all the settings. Make sure you have POP3 on in your GMAil account. To do this go to your G-Mail account, select settings on top, choose forewording and pop, and enable POP. You should now be able to receive emails. To send go to menu, 5,5,3,4,2 select a blank profile, type in the name for example T-Mobile. For APN type in wap.voicestream.com nothing for the rest of the fields, and save this. There you go, now you should be able to send and receive emails.

These are the settings that worked for me.

Posted by: annicus

oh, yay!! thanks kit fox!! it's funny kuz i never actually tried the gmail smtp server and ports since all the other forums seem to say that tmobile only allows you to use their smtp server. but yeah, i sent 3 trials to various email address (2 gmail and 1 hotmail) and they all got there... cool!!

If I recall, in email settings on the phone, separate from connection settings, under the account you set up, there's a radio button to activate the GPRS profile for email. You should see "T-Zones" or "T-Mobile GPRS". Click it if you have not already.

Yup, your welcome, it was quite the conundrum to myself till I finaly got that damned APN info.

I'm trying to set up my Samsung D820 with Gmail using those same settings and While I can receive email, I still cannot send. I get a "DNS error" when I try to send. Would any of you have any other suggestions?

Posted by: jenarelJAM

I know that I was confused by this thread, and since I didn't already have wap set up, I was kinda lost. I called 611 (cingular customer service), and the lady looked up some stuff, which didn't correspond to my phone at all. I typed in as much as possible, tried it, it didn't work. Just as I was about to give up, she said, hang on, turn off your phone and I'll try sending you the settings from here. So I did, she did, I turned it back on, and it worked perfectly, sending and receiving emails. For the record, my DNS 1 and 2 are both 0.0.0.0
I set up the other settings exactly the same as posted above.

Posted by: snavid972

ok the d900 is just like the u600 almost so i setup my gmail and everything but i get a dns error still i have everything setup correctly the thing is i dont have my t-zones activated could that be the case here ???
