adding sounds for text messages

ok im a noob, and i am trying to figure out how i can add different sounds to my messages. i dont want to have to use the voice recorder. I have bitpim, and i can install my own ringtones, but i cant add my own sounds, and i dont know how to use my ringtones in messages. thanks in advance.
forgot to say i have razr v3c on verizon
