903 Firmware

Is it worthwhile to flash a 903 from the HK firmware to another one, like Europe or no repro japanese?

Posted by: aychseven

depends on your needs. HK is working great for me now since i've done a master reset (looks like they never did it after flashing, but now signal strength and battery life are much improved). but i've decided i don't need t9 support, and would rather have the ability to change themes and have full screen wallpaper, so i will probably switch to japanese fw. research the differences, because no matter what way you go, you're sacrificing some feature.

no-repro japanese will be about $120 CAD thru timsta.

it is also possible for about $50 CAD (perhaps not through timsta?), but you have to provide your active SIM.

in both cases, repro will come back if you change sim cards.

euro firmware is the simplest to use. even regular repro isnt bad.

thanks for the answers, i've decided to stick with the hk firmware for now. Was wondering though why is the no repro flash from timsta more expensive than the other ones.

the no repro flash from timsta is his own firmware mod. he charges more for it so it isn't leaked.

I still -don't- know why you can't just use EURO and firmware boot to JP. I used it like that for a good couple weeks, I heard from some on these forums that if you Master reset in that mode, you can fsk up your phone but.. just.. don't?

It's the cheapest non-repro .. ever! Lol. Plus you can use EURO when you don't like it.. Me.. I can't stand not having mp3s ;p.

just a few questions because I'm a noobie lol anyhoo:
1. What is repro exactly? Is it something like restrictions on functions..or what? And is it only on JP firmware?
2. What is hybrid firmware? Is it possible to choose a hybrid between two firmwares? How does hybrid work?

Thanks in advance

I'm kind of a noob also to Sharps so I can't answer the first question but here's what i know about the hybrid firmware. You have the jap firmware on your phone with a different firmware over it. You can use the 8+power trick to switch between the two firmwares. For example, I can start in either Euro or Jap firmware..

repro- is just the screen that pops up after you hit menu asking if you want to update from the network... (you have no use unless you are in japan)

love jp firmware.... i can live with a lack of t9 and having to convert mp3 to acc
i don't have to live with repro thanx to gabbie...

jap fw notes.....

built in voicemail.. in english or in japanese
3 themes... one to match each color of phone
6 pages of emoticons... *some are animated*
fullscreen wallpaper...
say good bye to operator logo
reception bars are way thicker and change color
use of barcode, QR code and text scanner

and other's that i've forgotten because i've used the phone for too long..

hybrid fw is annoying...
icons don't match true function in the main menu
time required to save pictures is SLOOOOWWWWW

because for most people, when you load the JP from the Euro flash, the place where the black bar should be on the bottom, may show up as garbled.

also, any attempt to type in japanese will lock up the fone and may require it to be flashed again.

lastly, if you go back to Euro after, there is a chance you will get repro on your Euro phone!

on a slightly related note, what are the codes for the euro firmware? like the two digit number on the top row when using the 8+power method?

any help would be great : D

Posted by: Kevbodian

1 = Euro
21 = JP
63 (i think) = HK

thanks : )

i guess it doesn't work to boot euro on HK firmware D: lmao. the menu items were all mixed up

and for japanese, all i got was a non working menu (but it was SOOOOOO much nicer!)

Posted by: Kevbodian

menu stuff on the bottom of the main wallpaper will usually not show up, but if you press the middle button anyways, the menu will come.

dont play with it too much or you risk the cost of having it reflashed.

*edit* of course if you do flashing yourself, then play with it all you want!

Oh.. So that's where my EURO got repro XD. But a master reset fixes it. Hm.. either way, I love my EURO->JAP (watch me get screwed later ;p)

edit:

1 = euro
21 = jp
62 = HK

@eyies

just make sure that your master reset is in the correct firmware mode. I did a master reset while in the euro part (flashed firmware is japanese).. bad move, phone became blinker. I had to reflash it. about 30 mins later i was all peachy though.

Posted by: marco712

just wondering.. why would you have to master reset the phone after you flash it? is it just to make sure everything is working ok?

Posted by: jeebjp

Just for that, and I remember after flashing the test unlock Japanese firmware with a EU firmware the language wouldn't change before a master reset was made (I didn't do that flash, though). And sometimes leaving the settings on the phone could lead to problems that wouldn't usually be there (it's just easier for the customer to have a phone that would not have any "leftovers" from the old firmware).
