Hi all, back online.
So, 904T and its hellish phonebook, nippon-style...
I've started to use the "Reading" system on the phonebook.
Since I couldn't get to install IE/Outlook japanese version on my PC,
I started putting the "Reading" data into the phone itself.
I've done like 15 or 20 entries. Put the reading format for first and last name.
Then OK, the names comes alphabetically in the listing mode.
However I see two things, and that's my questions here:
1. They alphabetically listed by Last name. Is it possible to make it alphabetically by first name?
2. How do I access a name in the list just by pressing the first letter?
(I.e, I want to find John Stevens on the list so I press "J" or "S").
Because when I do, it does nothing.
That'd mean that eventhough the names are alphabetically in order, I'd still have to manually go down to each name?
Am I wrong? Do I forget something?
Thanks.

1. Put first name in the last name field.
2. The closest you can get is changing the search mode to "by reading".

2. you can't.. that little thing bugged so much on that phone.. i ended up typing a japanese character in the "reading last name" field.. like the one you get when press 6, i would enter that one for everyone i have whose name start with j, k or l. Then i enter their first name in the "reading first name" field. I also entered the names backwards in the "display name" fields so it would display everyone's names properly the way i like it (first name, then last name).
I know it sounds complicated but after a couple of times you get the hang of it, so then when i go into the phonebook i'd press left/right to go through names of abc, def, ghi, etc... and then press up/down to go through those lists. Made my searching alot quicker.

hey, think i solved the first prob w/o changing the first name to last thing...
just go to the display name field and type in First Name, Last Name
rather than Last, First as displayed
but i have a problem... the names only display in alphabetical order of the first letter... like A, B, C... but within all the A's the order is messed

Its because the way you entered the reading entries.. if those still have last entered where they should be it'll sort by that name

hah ok nvm, it didnt work...

It's a pain in the butt... that bugged me so much when i had the phone and had to enter all my numbers in to sort the way i like them.
