I was referred to you all by the Nokia forum regarding an issues I am having with my internet connection via GPRS/EDGE.

I have a new Nokia E70 and am using it on the Cingular network. Yes, I am aware of network compatibility conflicts between a phone from the other side of the planet and Cingular here in North America. However, the phone does work very well and I do get great voice coverage. It is my understanding that if I am getting good voice coverage then I happen to be in an area where Cingular and my immigrant phone get along and that I should be able to get date coverage as well via a GPRS connection.

Problem with data connection via GRPS:
It does not work. The connection process times out or gives me a packet data error, connection not available.

It was suggested that I try the following and that if that did not work, I come talk to you all.

Other thread about my problem over at Nokia

- Boot phone with no sim and delete all access points, I was gathering a long list of ones that do nothing.

- Reboot phone with sim and see what access points come up.

- My sim did not bring up any access points on its own.
(Note: A T-Mobile sim I borrowed from a coworker did bring up an access point on its own that did work)

- Next I tried the setting wizard and got the following access points:
- CINGULAR INTERNET
- Internet – GPRS
- Multimedia

- None of these worked, (timed out) so I rebooted without the sim again and deleted all these.

- Reboot once again with the sim and went to Nokia to get their settings for Cingular and the E70 and got the following:
- Cingular GPRS
- Cingular MMS

- None of these worked either, (still timed out)

So after a discussion about this over at the Nokia Forum, it was suggested that I come over here and ask those that have Series 60 phones with Cingular, what are your specific access point settings for connecting via GPRS?

What version of firmware do you have on your E70? The default settings supplied by the firmware *should* work if you have a relatively recent version of firmware.

Blue SIM or Orange? (Were you formerly AT&T or have you always been Cingular?)

Oh, geeez, how do I figure that out?
Also, where might I find software updates if i need them? Nokia? US or UK?

Orange. Migrated over from ATT about a year ago.

I used Nokia Europe's configurator to transmit Cingular's MMS and WAP configurations to a 6270 from the UK. Accepted both messages, then rebooted.

Under "Settings>Configuration>Default config. settings", Cingular Express shows up at the end of a bunch of UK providers. Picked Cingular Express, rebooted, and my 6270 is both web and MMS enabled. I hook up to Media Net without a hitch!

My phone was originally from Asia somewhere, or at least I think it was. Its have marking on the keys I am not similar with. I uploaded UK setting and software to the phone first thing.

I went to Nokia and looked for setting to download from the UK that listed Cingular or Cingualr Express as a provider and didn’t see anything.

You can go to http://www.nokiausa.com/support and get the settings you need for Cingular.

its been a while, its been kinda busy but i am still in need of help.

I tried the setting wizard and got the following access points:

How about this?

I can get GPRS to work on my SVLR from Cingular. Is there a way to view access point information on the SVLR and then get the E70 to the same? Would that work? I cant seem to find where access point info would be in my SLVR however.
