Worth it to upgrade 2125 firmware?

Hey guys,

Is it worth it to upgrade my 2125 firmware? What are the pros/cons? I'd like to have the push mail, but I don't have to have it. Are there any drawbacks?

Thanks,
Dan

No comments whatsoever?

I don't have a 2125 but I do have 8125 and just did the update. I have noticed a difference. Not huge but still a difference. the OS runs faster and less freezes. Just some of my input. hate when I post and now one responds.

I wouldnt if I were you. The upgrades/changes arent significant, and the most recent firmware introduced a whole bunch of issues with my phone- t9 sticking, lockups, etc. Unless you are having a major issue, its not worth it IMO.

Did I read correctly that if you install the QTek ROM first then the Cingular ROM, WiFi magically appears? and works?

*Not sure about that after some research, it may be the Tmobile SDA

I don't think so, as I recall the 2125 doesn't have the wifi hardware, does it?

Well it's a toss up. I'd really like to have push functionality, but if it makes the phone a peice of ****, it's not worth it. Is it possible to revert back to the old version if I don't like it?

I did it. You get a better IE experience (supports frames) and push email if you want it.

Did you have any problems with T9 entry? Any other issues?

You can't downgrade if you don't like it, can you?

Thanks,
Dan

Some of the issues I've noticed after doing it include the T9 sticking, sometimes when I hit the back space it erases a whole sentence. If I don't use the T9 and I do it regular it goes slower. For instance if I try typing the letter "C", I will press "2" three times and it only gets to the "B". It's not just a once in a while occurence it does it all the time. Also it seems to react a little slower when changing screens and starting programs. I do like the new layout and graphics on the screen when you hit your bluetooth button. The above problems started the second I installed the update and are the only things that I have noticed so far. I'm sure there are more negative and positive things. I guess overall it's not bad enough for me to switch back though and I always like having the phone updated.

You can try it and if you don't like it you can install the previous version you had as long as you kept a copy. I always keep a copy of the rom downloads on my hard drive.

Awesome, thanks. How do I back up my current firmware? Do I need a previous ROM file? If so, do you have that?

Thanks!

Dan

I have the previous ROM but it's 32.5 MB. It's a little to big to send to you.

Wirelessly posted (T-Mobile MDA: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))

tip: exchange MSN login through pm, and send it through msn

I would not install this update. The keypad goes to hell after the update. Not only the T9 input is affected but also regular TAP input suffers from sticky keys. The Back key also frequently becomes stuck. And worst of the worse, the volume for Bluetooth headsets is significantly reduced.

Cingular and HTC really tossed the 2125 to the trash with their AKU2 update.

And regarding Wi-Fi, the hardware is not there. If you install a ROM for a phone with Wi-Fi, like the QTek 8310 into the 2125 you WILL see the WiFi icon in Comm Manager, but you'll get a device error if you try to turn Wi-Fi on.

For what it's worth, I just received a replacement 2125 with the updated ROM and I have noticed the keys being a little glitchy but liveable.
The IE seems to be more stable and quicker but I seem to bounce around on and off the Edge network more often.
One thing I did notice is that I seem to have about 4-5mb more storage memory on the
phone than I did with either my SMT or my other 2125. If the additional memory availbility came from the new ROM I feel its more than worth it

Does anyone have the ROM before the latest. My phone was doing the searching... thing so I upgraded to the sp5m rom and now my volume doesn't adjust when the phone is locked on an incoming call. It is bugging the cr$p out of me.

Anyone have the old rom or can point me in the right direction?

I have the last ROM as a backup. But I tried to go back to it and it wouldn't let me. It said that I could only upgrade and not go back a version. This sucks. I used to go back and forth when I had the MPx220, what happened? Is it the WM5 or the phone? PM your Yahoo or MSN messenger ID and I'll send it to you. It didn't work for me but maybe somone can find a way to do it. At first the ROM didn't bother me until I noticed what it did to my bluetooth volume.

Hi Lopezpm...

Just sent you a PM, thanks in advance!

I managed to get my phone back to the Previous ROM. I followed the instructions here.. http://tech.bryandavis.net/

You don't need to download the new 8310 ROM, just do the registry edits and use the SPV program. After you do those 2 things load up the ROM that you want. The first time I tried it, it got to 8% and crashed, it took me through some recovery steps and it restarted the upgrade again. The 2nd time it worked perfectly. The texting is back to normal and the Bluetooth volume sounds great. On a side note, this is what Cingular Data Support emailed back. I also talked to HTC and they said they were aware of the issue but have no ETA on a new ROM to fix the issue.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for contacting Data Support!
HTC America has identified an issue with Bluetooth pairing after upgrading the device to the new firmware version; however, the sticky buttons problem sounds more like a physical unit problem rather than a software/settings issue. For assistance with this issue and possibly with downgrading the ROM, please contact HTC at 1-877-878-6944. If the problem persists and if your device is within 30 days from the purchase date you can contact the sales channel where you got the device from. If it has been over 30 days since the purchase of your equipment but less than one year, you can contact the Exchange By Mail group from a landline at 1-800-801-1101. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Thanks again,

José
