Notice that any ringtone you download, you cant assign it as a "ringer id" for someone...it will still play the default ringtone. the only ringtones that work for ringer id are the ones that come with the phone...

Really? That sucks. Thanks for the heads up. I'm thinking about getting the phone.

I believe Cingular will try to push a software update thru FOTA. The problem is known and being researched.

must be your phone

IIRC, from other threads, this is a problem when you use ringtons purchased from Cingular - not mp3 ringtones you use yourself - it's been noted on this forum and the cingular lg support forums, to boot.

this has been documented in other threads

no, it's a problem with all ringtones. I just made a few ringtones and assigned them to users/groups. They don't work. Only the mp3 assigned as the default ringtone rings, not the one assigned to group/user...

Well the CU500 just got a 8.3 review on CNET. That's the highest I've ever seen on a phone at CNET. The K790a has an 8.3. CNET really likes Cingular 3G phones.

Don't know about the group ringtones as I haven't set any up, but mp3 ringtones assigned to individuals do work.

must be your phone, they work fine foe me.

the ringtones downloaded from media net work in mine. is it a bad batch of phones out there? wouldn't surprise me given the manufacture

Posted by: davesz

no, make a group with a few numbers and assign a ring you got from the cingular site, make sure the default ring is something else. See if a group member can call you and check whther the ring is the default or the one for the group.

Btw, I was wrong, it seems that my HOME number, assigned to group FAMILY, seems to be the only one that doesn't ring with the group ringer, home made ringers, other groups work fine with their assigned ringers...

I haven't ever tried assigning a specific ringtone to a group, so I can't say whether or not there are problems there, but specific ringtones assigned to individuals do work for me.

And, as others have already stated, other threads have discussed the problems some have had with ringtones purchased from Cingular and not being able to get them to work when assigned to individuals/groups. Whether this a problem for a batch of phones or something with those particular Cingular ringtones, who knows...

Cingular charges to much for ringtones anyway. People should just make their own. (I know, I know. Not everyone knows how to do this. It just kills me what some companies can charge for a ringtone. It's ridiculous).

I have no problem either. Everything works fine with assigning ringtones.

I'm having the same issue. First the group ringtone wouldnt play, just the default or the individual contact. Now the group and the individual contact ringtone dont work, it only plays the default.
