Where are the new batch of P800s made in?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I heard that they are made in China. Is this true?

Thanks

My friend has the R2A sticker on his P800 box with R1C software though, its the 2003 batch and it says Made in Sweden (i have R1B on my box and week 44 batch 2002)

My brand-spanking new replacement phone (see earlier posts about how I broke the screen on my first p800) is a R3A phone, and came with R1D software installed.

(So it should be pretty fresh of the assembly line - I dont know where on the sticker the build date is - but if its the "03W05" number I guess my phone was built between the 27th and 31st of January this year).

It is (drum roll please) made in ... sweden (yay!)

The battery is "Made in Japan. Finished in Sweden."

Excellent! thanks mates!

BTW, what are the chances of the screen breaking easily?

Posted by: bfg

depends...

if you dont use the keypad, the chances are low - get a screen protector to protect from scratches and you should be fine.

if you use the keypad, the chance is very high :

My screen broke when I was sitting down at my desk, and had rolled into the edge of the desk (and not hard either). What happened was that the keypad bent (but didnt break) inwards, and crushed the screen. Because the pins in the keypad obviously extend as this crushing action happened - the pins concentrated all that force on two or three points of the screen - giving the screen no chance. Had the keypad been off - the force would have been spent on the edges of the phone (as the screen is recessed into the body) or uniformly across the screen, and I strongly believe the force in question would not have been strong enough to break the screen if spread out in this manner.

if you read earlier threads, my experience doesn't seem unique either - the keypad just isnt safe in this manner.

With my new one I now use it without keypad, and with a screen protector - and I feel much more confident about it. Ive dropped it into the desk once or twice, that sort of thing, and it is very very solid...

cheers,

bfg

Totally agree with bfg.

My screen also broke with the the keypad on. The time i was trying out a case, who knows the screen broke as i try to close the case.

What ever happened next is similar to what bfg described.

oh rite, that doesn't sound too good! how much did it cost to fix?

My phone is Made In France

Made 003W2

Posted by: Jalal

I think I read somewhere that the P800's will be made in France...As of now all the P800 I have seen are Swedish...

Posted by: hdavidson

My P800 was made in France.

BFG & SC-SE I would also like to know what it cost to repair / replace the P800 screen?

Posted by: Jalal

Have you compared the build quality of the French made with the Swedish made one?

Posted by: bfg

hi guys,

the screen repair wasn't as bad as I thought. Although I dont have the exact details of the repair, I believe the lcd (with the touchscreen element needed replacing).

The total cost for the repair was SEK 1500 (ex VAT), SEK 1875 (incl VAT).

(SonyEricsson UK refused to repair the phone, so I had to send it to the retailer where I bought it in Sweden - GEAB the Phonehouse)

As it turned out, for some reason GEAB couldnt repair the phone even when the screen arrived, so they sent it to SE and gave me a new one (the R3A phone mentioned above) and charged me for the repair cost. I got the feeling it was GEAB who had mucked something up...

£134!! not good!

Where do you look to find where the unit was made?

Thanks.

Posted by: Jalal

Back label...remove the battery and you'll see it

Posted by: oferlaor

mine is from France.

I think they're moving production to China.

Posted by: Exhaloprez

Well I hate to sound dense but I cannot find it. I used a magnifying glass and still no made in or other such words. I see the 03W06 which means that it was made during the sixth week of 2003? There is a IDA, etc. Is there actual language saying "made in" or a code with letters?

Posted by: varunreddy

I cant find it either. I can see that it was made in 03W04 (2003 week 4) with R3A hardware. The battery is made in japan and finished in sweden

Posted by: Jalal

It should be where the IMEI number is...Also on the box label at the bottom it should say where its made...

Posted by: tokuro

My P800 is made 03w06 and have no identification of where it was made. The box says “made in Sweden” but that’s just box…? I wonder where those 03w04 – 03w06 phones are made in?

Posted by: Jalal

I guess if the box says made in Sweden then the phone would be made there...
