Roaming on 5300

On my Sanyo 5300, I have three settings: Sprint, Automatic, and Analog Only. If I put the phone on the Sprint setting, will the phone ever go to Digital Roam if I am in an area with little or no coverage? I know that in the Automatic mode, it uses Sprint/Digital/Analog. I don't mind roaming, but only hate Analog.

Basically, is there anyway to have my phone only use Sprint or Digital Roam?

No, it will not. While your phone is set on "Sprint" it will never roam.

It is unfortunate, but I don't think there's a way to select "Automatic, Digital-Only" (but I sure do wish there was). I think the reason is that Sprint wants to have control over how you do your roaming (instead of giving you that control).

Best I can tell, it's about money. It is my understanding that in many cases, Sprint actually pays less to other companies for analog roaming than it does for digital roaming. So, in those areas, they will set your PRL to go to analog before going to digital roam. This saves them money (which is a good thing for everybody) but eats your battery and gives you a less secure connection (which is definitely bad for you).

I am in one of those areas... AT&T analog 1st, US Cellular Analog second, and then US Cellular digital (which has only happened once)... if I had that control I'd love it... but that is probably the most expensive roaming, otherwise it wouldn't be set that way.
