(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I need to be able to get 9,000 contacts on my 8125 but can only get less than half, I cant seem to find a way to move my contacts folder to the storage card.

I found this but I need to get the contacts to the storage card nothing else.

http://blog.fred.pullen.com/blog/_a...11/1879606.html

Is there and 3rd party software or some way to do it?

please help

I always love these posts... Honestly who needs 9000 contacts? No offense, but no matter what you say, you can't tell me you regularly or even occassionally call everyone on that list. That would mean you would have to call 24 different people a day to call everyone in a year. Now 24 phone calls a day isn't difficult, but 24 different people every day would be...

nskgti23, I agree with your post, to be honest its not for me but someone I know that works for a large company. I thought the exact same thing you did when he told me.

It seems that the Blackberry he used could hold all 9,000+ contacts. With Blackberry he could choose just the name and phone number and not the address to be loaded on the handheld. Maybe that is why the BB with only 64mb memory could hold all of them.

Is it possible in Activesync and Outlook 2003 to only sync just the names and phone numbers and not the address?

Any ideas or workarounds would be helpful.

Can anyone recommend an Address Book type software that can just reside on the storage card to hold the contacts.

It really doesnt have to be in the Outlook contacts, he just needs the information on the 8125.

9,000 contacts is on the high side, but not crazy. i had 3,000 until recently when i started deleting them because of space restrictions. they fit fine on my palm V (2 mb storage memory). they take up so much space on my 2125.

check SDA and MDA FAQ in T-Mobile SDA/MDA forums

I don't even know 1000 people, 9,000? WHOA

It sounds like your friend doesn't need to worry about spending a little money

There might be something better for this specific purpose, but the best solution I can think of is using Filemaker Mobile (PPC version of Filemaker Pro - relational database software) You could set up a simple database with all the same fields as the Outlook contacts, then export the outlook data into a compatible format (tab separated text or something) and import that to the Filemaker DB. Then the Filemaker program and DB file could be installed to a memory card on the phone.

This would accomplish what's necessary AND Filemaker could also be handy for a good many things. The mobile version is cheap, but best results would prob. come by buying the full version of Filemaker to use on a PC as well which would mean a total outlay of about $350 at retail cost.

this has to be one of the dumbest posts i've ever seen.

easy solution? don't store 9,000 contacts on your phone. if you need that many contacts, i suggest you buy a laptop. theres no reason to keep your corporate address book on your cell phone.

This has to be one of the most ignorant replies I've ever seen.

To you it may be silly, but to the person that is requesting this help it could be important. Who are you to say it's dumb? Why would anybody want to carry around a laptop when you can have all the same information and access in a PDA? And it makes more logical sense to store them in your PDA since you are connected to your corporate e-mail via your PDA, you place/receive calls via your PDA, you are on the go and everything you need is accessible via your PDA rather then strapping a laptop to your back or in your breifcase... while 9,000 contacts is on the extreme side, it's not a dumb question.

Come on man, have a little more sense than that.

Make the contacts available on a secure website somewhere, then access them via browser.

9000 contacts is ridiculous. Be honest...this is more of an attempt to impress someone than a legitimate need to access 9000 contacts from a cell phone.

HERE IS WHAT WE HAVE DECIDED TO TRY:

He is going to try to take his database spreadsheet import it into Excel, Edit out the addresses then import it into Outlook 2003. I will post the results if this works just in case someone else needs the info.

: I didnt seem to find anything about moving contacts to the SD card, but I was tired when I scanned throught those threads. I will look again. Thanks

phonefanatic07:Thank you but, He works for a bank the contacts are not for personal use but for the company he works for.

ilvla2: Me neither again it is not for me.

McDugan That just might be what he needs. Thanks alot

Isriam: Do you even know what an 8125 is? I see your using a V635. whoa high end Phone with "With up to 5 megabytes (MB) of end user internal memory you have substantial room for downloading and stockpiling applications, games, videos, photos and MP3 files. And thanks to removable memory cards for up to 256 MB of extra storage, you can view, groove and play without maxing out your mobile’s memory." (got that from Motorola's website for the V635 )

The device I am talking about can hold (with a 2gig MiniSD card) 4 movies, 100 or more MP3s and as many apps you would ever need including Pocket Outlook, Pocket Excel, Powerpoint, and Word all at the same time. It can use Internet Explorer, Opera or even Firefox (minimo) to surf the full/real internet. It has Terminal Services and can use pcanywhere mobile to connect to any pc I need to connect to that has pcanywhere, Terminal Services or Remote Desktop. It can connect to any open wireless router or routers that I have a password to, 802.11b/g. With a bluetooth gps and IGuidance I have a great talking GPS Device. I can upload or download from a FTP site and could use a bittorrent client. This is just a few things I can do with my 8125.
I would also bet I paid either the same or not more than $75 than you did for the V635. I wonder who got the better deal?

Now tell me what can your V635 do? And what is your expertise to be able to even remotely attempt to answer the question in the first post of this thread?

Take your little boy's toy and go back to the appropriate forum I am talking Pocket PC (ie Pocket Personal Computer) here!

RulinSmoove: I appreciate your support. There are some kids on this forum that do not understand we buy these devices for something more than games, videos, photos and MP3 files.

Stinkfist: I assure you this person is not trying to impress anyone, I have been to the bank he works at (The Commercial Branch, meaning they handle alot of commercial property= lots of contacts) also he has 2 other coworkers with the same phone in the same boat. Before they used Blackberry it handled the amount of contacts fine.

I hope that I have not offended anyone any more than they offended me. I came here looking for help and got some from the more reputable members. I do thank you for your time.

To the others: Didn't your Mother ever tell you if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all.

viper actually i have a 8125. infact im a cingular employee and have used probably any phone you can get from cingular.

phone lists are locked at 1000 on most phones, 500 on others for a reason.

try keeping it under that limit. if you can't keep your contact list under 1,000 then you need something more powerful than a cell phone. you need a laptop. until cell phones have easy access to VPN, every windows based application, and unlimited storage, forget it.

Posted by: viper777

Being a Cingular Employee does not at all make a person an expert on an 8125, lol, ask anyone on these forums. In fact you have just lost alot of credibility with me just stating that fact. Do you live in Texas (ie West Texas Call Center)? Also is it proper for a Cingular employee to insult a person on a public forum?

"phone lists are locked at 1000 on most phones, 500 on others for a reason."

What do you mean by phone list on an 8125?

Do you even know what Outlook is?

There is no limit for contacts in Outlook only the available size of memory. Not the phone.

You must be a Cingular employee I have no doubt now.

please stop sending me pm's about this post. i check my threads i post to.

outlook is a made for laptops and pc's. not cell phones. the same example is word and excell. you can not do the same things in excel or word that you can on a laptop.

when cell phones can hold more than 9,000 contacts like an exchange program, the will be able to do a lot more than just make phone calls and store your calendar.

as said above, this is nothing but someone trying to impress other people. there is no reason for 9,000 contacts in a cell phone.

Its not me that want 9000 contacts on my phone, why would I try to impress someone by knowing someone that needs 9,000 contacts on their phone?

I am not here to impress anyone just came an asked a question.
You started the flame war!

You are also showing you ignorance again stating that Outlook is not on the 8125.

Outlook is on this PDA the 8125 if you knew anything about this Phone you would know that. Better google that again You didnt look hard enough. This time google Pocket Outlook.

Again you are talking phones I am talking Windows Mobile 5 the Pocket PC part of the 8125.

Waiting for your reply Genius

Actually Word and Exel are pretty good on the 8125. Of course they dont offer the exact same options as a PC version but when your on the road you can get the job done using pocket word and excel.

Also, the 8125 is not just a phone, it is a small computer. Hence Pocket Personal Computer (PPC)

Posted by: Isriam

i have an 8125. i have a ton of apps. i use pocket outlook, and pocket ie, and pocket excel, and pocket word. these are not the same applications that come on your pc. pocketpc is a great word. i just don't see very much PC in it yet.

i'm done with this discussion.

A PR person I work with has about 2500 contacts, and they need to be available for use...9000, not sure about that...

Anyway, you want a simple .cab file to do what you want right?

http://geektribe.net/default.aspx

This will move your Mail storage locations from the default, to the storage card.

The issue is, if you have them stored in the current location, they don't get automatically moved over to the new location on the storage card. You need to re-sync.

It is good to run these type of setup cabs after you do a master reset on devices, that way, new email/contacts etc..go to the location right from the start.

Anyway, I used this and it works great and stored my 100MB worth of emai I want available on storage.

Give a try and let us know.

I agree...

I have over 6000 contacts... does that make ME Stupid? Why do I have 6000 contacts you ask? Because I'm CEO of my company, and thats how many relationships I've established over the years in making my business successful, and while I may not call every one of them, I need them available in case I HAVE to. And there are PLENTY of reasons to keep corporate address books on cell phones.
