Standard Software across all Verzion Phones?

I talked to a few Verizon Sales Reps and they're all saying that Verizon has chosen to put the same software on all of the phones. The software first appeared on the LG's with the horizontal scroll for categories and vertical scroll for menu items.

Right now I have a V710, and I love the list-style menus, however no new phones have it anymore.

Does anybody have any more information about it? Or the name of the software so I can do some more research?

It's just the new standard layout that vzw is putting on most every new phone. There's absolutely no way around it and the reason it is happening is so that when a customer comes in to upgrade in one or two years, they don't have to learn how to operate a new phone again.

I think that’s ridiculous in the way that they are doing it.

This basically means that there will be no difference between phones aside from their hardware specs and looks. Which means they are becoming more like PC's, except you can't customize the OS, and phone makers can't improve on it.

I have worked with a lot of phones in the past, and I must say that Qualcom and Motorola make the best OS's for phones. I like LG phones, but from a Computer Science point of view, their software seems very limited in the way that is is structured.

They should give certain guidelines to phone makers and have them run with it, or at least give them the option to addon features on top of the current OS.

I absolutely can't stand the Menu Categories going left to right and sub-items going listed normally. I would rather have a list of menu items, and then a sublist of other items.

Although this move makes sense for ease of use, and to lower costs of creating a phone for the manufacturer, Verizon needs to throw some serious money into the development of the OS in order to compromise for it.

I love the new menu. I really didn't like it at first, but after a few days of using my 8100 I loved it. It's so much faster to me...and I loved the fact that when I switched to my 8300, everything was in the same place.
