Buying an "international phone": couple of questions

I am sure this has been addressed ad-nauseum elsewhere, but my searches have been unrevealing.

I'm considering buying an unlocked HP iPaq hw 6925 phone rather than wait endlessly for Cingular and/or T-Mobile to finally carry it. Anyway, since it's available in the EU, there are several places unlocked versions can be purchased (for an obsecene price...but that's an entirely different issue...)

For phones with an international warranty, what, exactly does that mean? If it breaks, i have to send it to the UK to get fixed? That's what I'm guessing.

All caveats aside about buying from trusted sources, etc, is there anything I should be concerned about buying one of these EU-editition phones? (Other than assuring their chargers will work here in the US).

Thanks!

i thought international warranty meant that HP North America would recognise a warranty issued by HP UK.

That's sort of what I thought....anyone?

I'm this |___________| close to buying an unlocked HP 6925 via eBay and visiting Cingular or T-Mobile to get it hooked up. Want someone to hold my hand and say it's okay ($$ issues aside)...
