s55 Memory Management

I posted on this forum when first got my s55 in regards to the flex memory but I'm posting this to find out about how much memory you all have left on your fone. I have taked to people that have from 300-600Kb free space and they have 15 wallpapers and 9 ringtones... I have 12 wallpapers in .bmp format all under 10KB each and 12 ringtones in .mmf format all relatively small except the voice tones that are 16Kb each. I have almost KB free space. I had less than that before but I tweeked the wallpapers to be 8-10Kb each. How much space do you all have and in what format are you managing your files to have more free space?

Let's see....

143 KB for 25 Pictures (gif and bmp)
171 KB for 24 Ringtones (midi and mmf)
55 KB for 3 Java Apps
14 KB for 2 Gif Animations

Months and Months of appointments.
No MMS or SMS stored in memory at the moment.

Total free:
316.35 KB

Personally I like to keep about 300 KB free for random snapshots, which I dump the second I get home. ;-)

Here's the updated list of what I put into my phone...... it's not much but you tell me:

Ringtones 137Kb (22 in total .mmf and .midi)
Wallpapers 178Kb (24 gif and bmp)

Deleted all java apps and no digi cam pics stored in fone....

Total of what I have put in: 315Kb

No sms or mms or calendar appointments at all.....

Freespace= 141.23Kb

Total Space on fone: 921.kb (If I'm not mistaken)

How is it that I only have that much freespace? & people with more on their fone have more space? Are there settings I don't know about for memory or are there factory settings I can erase to make more space?

Well, my phone is unlocked and there are no carrier specific settings in the phone. One of the first things I did was dig though EVERY folder on the phone and nuked all the worthless graphic and sound files that I would never use. I also deleted carrier images.

Outside of that, dunno what to tell you.

I do have firmware V4, what version do you have?

I do not use voice dialing, do you? I remember that would eat up free space on my T68i and I bet it does on the S55 too (too lazy to setup all the voice dialing right now to see if it makes a difference).

My s55 is unlocked aswell... running sw vsn 4 aswell. The voice commands don't take up much room I am using only 4 of them....
I erased the factory ringtones the day I got it and deleted 8 out of the 10 preprogrammed mms tones. I added a few vvoice email tones instead which I accounted for in my ringtone memory total Kb in the previous post. What sound and graphic files did you nuke? I would like to do the same so I can free up more space. Thanks for all the info so far I appreciate it

I have an unlocked s55, that was apparently purchased from O2 in germany. Anyway I have an O2 startup and shutdown animation. Does anyone know how to delete these. They are not in the animations folder, Also i don't even have the animations option active. Yet it is there.

Any ideas?

I also have the O2 animations I don't think you can get rid of them..... there is an option in the display menu to use your own though... thats what I do. You can use an animated one or just a wallpaper that way you don't have to see the O2 one.

Are the O2 animations the fish?

Posted by: Synncere

Before I used my own custom shutdown and start up the 02 one that was there was not a fish but water bubbling and a welcome sign or a goodbye sign..... but I get the fish when it says pls wait when the fone is performing a function

My startup and shutdown animations have fish and appear to be siemens factory-installed animations.

To delete the O2 logos go into customization and then operator folder. All the logos and startup animations are in there for O2.

for all those who pm'd me (sorry I thought I would just post 1 answer as it was the same question...) the psm player "does" allow you to edit your ringtones. To save space or to increase the amount of tones you have and not use too much memory shrink your tones. Using the whole song is pointless and I have many tones that are extremely long! I shrunk all of mine to 15-25 seconds in lenght and I have increased the number of tones on my fone significantly with little space taken. Hope that helps...
