D807 Recall: Widespread?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Spetsnaz Op

My semi local Cingular corp store did not have any in stock when I walked in ... the rep said Cingular told him to pull the phones because of software issues (he said he had recieved no complaints). I have not seen this of heard of this anywhere else but hopefully cingular is going to have some new firmware out soon (maybe even with a louder earpiece) thoughts?

Posted by: Arden

alot of people have complained about the low earpiece issue so maybe thats why. thats the only issue i have with mine but i could live with it.

Posted by: boston_errol

My D807 is extremely, in fact obnoxiously loud with regards to the earpiece volume.

Posted by: BellaDea

when I asked samsung about the earpiece problem they said that technically the earpiece volume is to industry requirements so they don't see it as an issue... but ya, that's our biggest complaint too.

we haven't heard of pulling it off the shelves tho....

You much have a different phone. I had 5 (family plan) and returned them all, due to low earpiece volume and poor reception.

That is why I returned mine.

Posted by: didefresh2006

Mine works fine, I guess mine got the updated software. I had mine for a little over a week. The speakerphone is loud, the reception is out of this world, and it's just amazing all the things that my d807 can do.

Posted by: Khadgar346

I asked my cingular store and they never heard anything about a recall

Posted by: nave462000

first:

there is no way anyones earpiece is abnoxiously loud on this phone because its just barely loud enough to make a call..

second:
this isnt the area thats most disappointing, mp3 playback is practically silent (outside play is a joke) and the ring volume is...inexcuseable

Posted by: Character Zero

I also don't have an issue with the earpiece volume. Its a little louder than my old
Samsung phone. I could barley hear my wife's work phone on my old cell and now its very loud. I got the phone about a week ago.

Posted by: tuolumne

The Samsung D807 in the Cingular store I used was about just as loud as my Samsung MM-A800 was on level 1. Yikesss..

Why are CDMA phones always so loud?

...whatever the reason, the D807 was too quiet (earpiece volume) for me.

Posted by: bobolito

Earpiece volume level has nothing to do with the codec used or the technology used. It is merely an adjustable setting.

That's 100% pure grade BS, my friend. If that were true, then all phones would have (or wouldn't have) the same problem.

Posted by: nave462000

cdma phones are always louder than GSM phones, it might have something to do with stricter standards becuase of the different technologies, eg. hearing aid compatible

Posted by: didefresh2006

I'm sure that if the recall is company wide, it'll be on the cingular website soon.

Every Samsung I have ever used (CDMA/GSM) has been sufficiently loud for me. That includes the S307. Every CDMA Samsung has blasted my ears out at top volume. Level one is just fine for me.

Posted by: celnut

The Samsung D807 I have is barely loud enough. If anyone has the codes for the hidden menu to raise the volume please chime in. BTW the codes for the T809 do not work.

I certainly can't contradict your experience, because it is yours. My experience has been different, except for the CDMA Samsungs I have used; they were sufficiently loud. I did or do prefer the style and design of the D807, but it just wasn't loud enough for me and the reception wasn't up to par. If those issues weren't present, I would have kept the phone.

Same here. I loved the phone, but reception and volume were the weakest I have ever noticed on a phone, and I have had A LOT of them. Or I would still have mine.

To my knowledge there is no industry requirements for earpiece volume. That is why different phones can have such large differences in output level. Sounds like BS to me too. I think most phones are not loud enough in fact.

Posted by: I have a phone

it's been almost a week and I haven't heard of any recall

Posted by: btomasie

Can you guys start to post the firmware and/or dates of your phone when you purchased them? Maybe we can see if the debat eon how some think the volume totally sucks vs. some that are more than happy with it correlates back to a specific firmware that Samsung/Cingular is shipping these out with.

I am so ready to pull the trigger on one of these to replace my RAZR, but cannot deal with low volume earpieces!! That is a total deal-breaker for me.

Thanks!
Brian

You can try this, it works for the ZX20...

*#1546792*#

If that gets you into a menu, let me know and I can try to walk you through based on what I see in the ZX20.

My ZX20 was waaaay to low for me as well, I was able to get it bumped up to a reasonable level.

Anyone tried this on their D807 yet?
I am looking at getting this phone, but don't want to be stuck with a low volume phone...

that's probably true....lol.... unless he meant there was a minimum something requirement and Samsung makes it so it passes and that's it where everyone else understands that most of us need louder earpieces these days.

oh well......

If I am not mistaken there have been no maintanence software updates on this phone since it was approved for sale. So as such I would assume all firmware to be the same.

Still, post away, you never know. It can't hurt.

Well, I guess I will start.

Samsung SGH-D807
Hardware Version: REV0.5
Software Version: D807UCFD5
Client Version: V.1.1.2

I believe I got one of the first ones that came out.

Posted by: Character Zero

Same for me and I got mine a week and a half ago.

RF hasn't been a problem as of yet (although I can't give a fair impression yet since I only got it a couple hours ago). I've placed a few calls and have averaged 3-4 bars per call. People weren't kidding when it came to call volume though-it's extremely low. When I placed a couple calls alone with no background noise, it still took a lot of effort to hear what the person on the other side was saying. I can only imagine the troubles I'll run into when I'm in a crowded area

Thanks Tim -
I returned my phone but am hoping someone will test out these codes. Has anyone tried this on their D807 yet? If it does work I may buy another one.

I'm guessing it wouldn't have worked anyway. I would have to believe if it was similar to the zx20, somebody would have tried it already.

It does seem really odd to release phones with low audio....seems like that should be one of the first things they should worry about when they test a phone.

does not work...gotta wait till the real codes come out

The one I got as replacement for my W600i and the one they sent as a replacement for another d807 both have that same software. I called warranty again and told them about the phone having low ear volume along with not being able to get 2 page text messages and not being able to see certain web pages on the internet, so they sent me a Nokia 9300.

same here.

ditto on the firmware

Posted by: Candanga

Same SW/FW here.

Sucks though, cause I don't even live in the US and I have to deal with those "Cingular" menus (shop! shop! shop! - Buy! Buy! Buy! ) Can't even install a simple Java game cause I need to download them in a network that doesn't exist in my country.

It's a matter of time till someone comes out with either an OEM FW or a hacked one; with no restrictions to simple functions.

Tip: try search strings in Google with codes (between brackets) like *#9998*3323# , I've found lots of weird codes and info. (most of it in Russian - [use Babel fish] )

Im new here and I bought this phone about one month ago.
Is a good phone with a good camera and all that stuff.

About the sound i got dissapointed because is to low but ii can be heard.

If u dont listen very well so turn on the speaker.
One thing I register in this page is because the problem of the games.
How do I installed them???
I download some games via internet and instal them direclty in the phone but I got other games in my computer that I want to instal them in my phone but I don't have the cable.
Bluetooth - maybe it will work but I heard from other forums that its doesn't work.
I found a page that shows u exactly what to do to pass the games from de pc via bluetooth to a d600.
Maybe it can work the same way in the 807 but I want someone to confirm if games can be trasnferred that way.

Sorry for the big speech.

Posted by: D807 user
