Internet Issues on 2125

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've had my 2125 for a while without any real issues. Recently though (like starting last week) I've had problems with my internet. It sometimes takes multiple attempts to connect to web pages, and this gets VERY annoying when I try to use Sirius WM5. I've never had this issue before. I didn't do anything recently to my phone. I'm using the MEdia Net unlimited plan. Anyone else had these issues?

There is another thread somewhere here about that. Several people, including myself, are experiencing similar issues. My phone goes to Connecting, then Locating and hangs there for at leat a minute if not more. Then, sometimes the pages load normally and sometimes horribly slow. Mostly though, it's the Locating issue I experience. Others have suggested it's a Cingular DNS issue and have demonstrated that if you plug in the actual IP address the page immediately loads. I've contacted Cingular. They acknowledge that there is an issue and that they are working on it but have no timeline for resolution. I'll be demanding a credit for my data package at the end of this month if they do not correct the issue, and will do so for every week that the problem still exists. Very annoying.

So is this a common thing amongst Cingular 2125 users or is this along ALL cingular smartphone users?

If you use a cingular internet service and use the default DNS your connection will be slow. That applies to all phones.

Then can you modify the DNS settings to help fix this?

Wirelessly posted (Cingular 8125 (2.25 Rom): Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))

Yes you can change them. Look for the thread I started in this forum about IE running slow. The directions on how to change your DNS servers are in there. I've been using the alternte servers suggested in the thread for a bit now and I have had zero MEdia net issues since then (besides it's irregulr data transfer speeds. It is flying today though).

I dont have a 2125 so I cant comment on where the change (if possible) is done. On my 8125 its very straight foward and made a huge difference in the speed of webpages loading.

If you can find the location of the setting you can try using the OpenDNS servers. There IPs are:

208.67.222.222
and
208.67.220.220

I googled a bit and found this:
"Try Start->Connections->GPRS. You can edit the existing Cingular connection "MEdia Net GPRS" or remove it and add a new one."

Youll want to edit the connection of course and primary and secondary DNS servers add the IPs I gave you. No other changes should be needed. Give it a try and lets us know how it goes.

I tried those IP's and it didn't make a difference on my Qtek 8500.

Sorry didn't work for me either.

Works great for me.. I tried those then went back to our DNS servers here at work.. Hopefully cingular will get this fixed soon.

Do you use a 2125 or an 8125? Beginning to think it works for the 8125 only.
