2125 and cell tower issues mystery

Hello. I have had my 2125 for about a month. During this time, while at home, my phone displays 4 bars and connection to the EDGE network for a few minutes after I do a reset and then goes down to one bar and displays the G. and stays that way until I reset again. My phone calls cut out and are dropped frequently. The frustrating thing is that I have a cell tower that is line of sight within 1/4 mile of my house.
I installed the CPS software to see what towers I was connecting to and sure enough right after a reset I was connected to my neighboring tower (310-380-55061-23108). Then a few minutes later I would be shunted off to a tower several miles away that had different network and LAC codes.
I called Cingular tech support several times and got no satisfaction. Then I had an agent from my local Cingular store call. She got hold of someone that did an "unlock from network" on my phone. within an hour I was locked on to my local tower and for the last week I have never had anything less than 4 bars of signal strength with EDGE.
Now, my live-in girlfriend has just gotten a 2125 and is having the exact same problem. Only now when the agent calls Cingular she is told that there are no notes of what they did to my account and that there is nothing they can do for my girl friend's account.
Any ideas as to what is going on?
Thanks,
d.

Probally just the same problem with the phone jumping to a different tower I would gess.
I would say just keep calling cingular until they fix it. Its something they have to do and the consumer cant do it. So their is no real solution expect having them fix the problem.
