is there really any way to get windows mobile 5.0 onto the phone? i heard that the mpx200 was capable of doing it however the mpx220 was not.
I want to get a smartphone as an extra phone just to use outlook and whatnot, plus on my erp account im entitled to two phones so i've been thinking about the mpx220..

also im looking all around for the rom update but i cant seem to find it anywhere, i saw on the cingular.com forums it gives you directions to update the phone to the cingular rom however when you go to the motorola website it isnt there.. and if i do purchase this phone it's going to be an unlocked version, which brings me to my next question should i upgrade it to the cingular rom?

Any smartphone with Smartphone 2002, Windows Mobile 2003 or 2003 Second Edition can be upgraded to Windows Mobile 5 in theory. The problem is that manufacturers are not making these upgrades. The reason why the MPx200 could be upgraded to WM 5 is because it was one of the devices used for beta testing WM 5 and there are leaked, unsupported ROM's out there. The MPx220 wasn't used for WM 5 testing so the only way it can be upgraded to Windows Mobile 5 is if Motorola makes such an upgrade available. Very unlikely.

Yeah, I'd pass on it. I went through 3 of them with problems. If you must have it, I wouldn't pay more than $100 for it.

I went through five MPx220's before I got fed up and traded for an SMT5600. If you have to have a clamshell smartphone, wait for the Cingular 3125 or get one of the unbranded variants, like the QTek 8500.

The MPx220 has a history of problems since its release in 2003. Just hold out until the release of the Cingular 3125 in September.

Yeah, I might as well just wait.. however the 3125 looks cheap... so who knows.
