You don't need a prepaid start up kit to make a new account

Posted by: dirtyjeffer

i know, you can also just buy a prepaid card, but either way, he is going to need airtime.

Hmm... I wonder how a Slingbox would work on the Q? Hrm... How quickly do you figure video and sound streaming at like 600kbps would ramp up to the 500MB cap?

forget slingbox, orb is the way to go, and it works perfectly on a 6700

I just spoke to a Bell rep. He said 2-3 weeks at the latest, he got to play with it for a few minutes today. He wants one! for you blackberry lovers he also said an 8700 series is 2-3 months away. he though it was 8730, i check the bb site, nothing on there. he was sure it was a cdma version of the 8700r though.

I think the real question with the Q is what type of data package Bell intends to offer with this device.

With Mobile MSN + emails + other programs I can see the data costs becoming VERY expensive.

Posted by: dirtyjeffer

the Q is due to launch Sept 7th.

According to our Corp. rep at Bell the stores won't actually take delivery until late Sept. Their "Suppliers" don't have stock until then.

Verizon had a 3 month exclusive on the Q in the US..I wonder if Telus got the same deal in Canada?

Posted by: MikieCGY

I wonder if a carrier can buy pure exclusivity.. ? hmmm prolly a pretty penny but possibly worth it

Posted by: L23Tan

Does anyone know if the Motorola Q will be Wi-Fi capable, like the UTStarcom6700?

Posted by: Dreaderus

l23tan:

out of box the q will not be wifi compatible. However there will be mini-sd wifi cards that most certainly should work in the device that can be purchased online or at a retailer.

This is what I'm wondering too. What's the point of owning these devices if the data plans are so high...? Unless one is a business user, I don't get it.

You wont be able to use wifi cards on the Q the card itself asks for too much power from the battery that the battery can't even push out..

Look it up on qusers.com --- however the tethered as a modem does work now - wifi however still does not

The Q isn't really designed to be a "nerd handset" - it's supposed to be for businesses as an "alternative" to blackberry...

Posted by: Dreaderus

mikecgy, im basing my input here on words straight out of a motorola tech for the device. so your saying you cannot third party wifi on the device? that seems a bit odd.

Dreaderus

Posted by: YnD

The big question is if there's unlimted mobile browser available on the Q.

With the Telus 50 Email and voice plan it includes a meg or two of emailing and unlimited spark browser uage.

Hopefully the Q is not 100% data only.

Posted by: Dreaderus

ynd:

I speculate on some newer price plans coming out, don't know all the details however the Q will be 100% data and not have any unlimited mobile browser features for $5 or $7

odd, but definitely true. It's just not possible.

That is understood, yes - however with WinMobile and MessengerMobile one would expect more web browsing than a standard Blackberry.

I hope Bell Mobility creates a Q data package to recognize this.

Posted by: Dreaderus

a query on this, can the wifi card be used in a q if its being powered to a wall extension or car charger?
