So, I've already swapped out to a second Treo 650 within the first 20 days of switching to Cingular Service. I had been longing for this phone for about a year and a half and finally got it but I am getting really frustrated and don't know if I should opt out of this plan before my 30-day trial period is up.
I have spoken to people who have the 650 with Verizon and everyone says that they have no problems with it... it runs fine. However, mine freezes at least once a day, at which point I have to pull out the battery to turn it off and then restart. Also, lately the time slows down and the other day at work, I thought it was 3:05 and it was relaly 3:50. I don't understand how this phone is so popular and yet I am having so many problems with it. It is not freezing as much as the first phone I got, but I can see this getting really frustrating after a couple of months.
Is anyone else having these problems? Is it a software issue? No one seems to know so someone told me about this forum and I was hoping to find some help/advice.
Or, what would you recommend if I get rid of the Treo and ask for a new phone altogether? I like a lot of the Treo features, like text messaging--that shows all your recent correspondance with a person, etc....

oh ok, so i guess its not just cingular's software...
so far, I have been receiving texts...that is the only thing holding me to this phone, but for all I know I could be missing phonecalls while it is frozen too..

Keep getting it replaced until you get a working model. Having a phone that locks up often and prevents you from receiving calls is unacceptable. I suspect part of the problem is that you usually get a refurbished unit whenever they give you a replacement and sometimes the refurbs still have problems.

My wife and I have had 650's for over a year. No freezing issues. Ocasionally they will reset, but thats maybe twice a month. Did you install any software on it yet? If so, backup everything and do a hard reset. Just run the base software for a while. Palm OS does not handle misbehaving apps well. If it runs well, slowly start adding the apps back to figure out what was causing the problem, this fixes most issues.

I had a bum Treo 650 too (though with Verizon). I thought it was software, and spent days trying to track it down. Finally I gave in and got a replacement. Now, no freezes at all and I've had 2 resets in about 4 months. This is with all my old software on it... so there are examples of bad phones out there.
Believe me, once you have a good phone, it's a much better experience.

Many times the frezing problem is not the phone, but the SOFTWARE you install on it that really isn't compatible. What have you installed in the phone since you got it?
