I have a Motorola Q and over the last month, I have been receiving between 30-40 unwanted BREW alerts every Day from 118012222247. The messages are as follows but slightly diferent for each message. Verizon cant block them and I cant block them. I dont have vtext or any alerts. I had upgraded the phone from a MotorolaV3CRazr and every message has MotorolaV3CRazr in it.

Any ideas.

I have had the same problem, and am trying to figure it out myself. I also upgraded from a v3c. I can olly figure that there has to be some kind of alert set up that I don't remember. I'll post if I find anything...

I guess that is possible, but I haven't been able to find a site that I have registered on that has an alert that might match this message.

Never the less, he suggested replying to the message with STOP QUIT END (each in individual reply messages). We'll see if takes care of it. I'll report back.

I upgraded from a V3c Razr when the Q first came out. No messages like this until Friday of this past week. I started out only gettting one or two a day now it is rapidly getting to about 15 per day.

From looking at the detail the email appeared to be coming from Acuweather so I opended a tick with them. This is what they told me:

The messages that you are receiving are coming from VCast at Verizon. You will need to contact Verizon’s Customer Service department to have them address the issue.

If you have any further questions, please let us know.

My guess is that if there were any VCast alerts going on when we had the V3c they did not get cleared out when we upgraded to a phone that does not support Vcast.

I can report that STOP and QUIT do not work I will try END today.

Since the original sports messages stopped in October(it took 4 months for verizon to figure it out), I have not received any new unsolicited messages until Friday February 2nd 2007 when I also started receiving about 15-20 weather messages per day. How do we get verizon to fix this?

This is most interesting. This is lines up with when I started seeing this as well. I have determined that replying with END, QUIT, or STOP does not help. Seems that Verizon may have made some sort of change that is impacting a number of users.

I have had this happen too. I didn't get an answer back from AccuWeather but I think it could be a VCast Alert also but I can't think of any reason why I would've signed up for them since I don't give a rat's *** about watching the weather. I'm glad this info has been put on here. Hopefully they'll finally be able to fix it.

I just got off the phone with them for the third time and they were again no help. I did finally get an answer from AccuWeather. Here is my email from them:
The text messages that you are receiving on your phone are coming from a service
called VCAST on your Verizon mobile device. Although our name is listed on the
Breaking Weather News, AccuWeather is only responsible for providing the weather
data to Verizon. Verizon is responsilbe for sending the text messages to your
device. If you would like to cancel this service, please contact your local
Verizon Customer Service and let them know that you would like the Breaking
Weather News text messages from VCAST to be removed from your device. If you
have any more questions or comments, please let us know.

This is really getting on my nerves.

Now, they're trying to give me some garbage that it has to do with my firmware and PRL. I didn't know that my phone's software could send me a text message from VZW and AccuWeather. It's amazing what my phone can do.

I finally got ahold of a guy who admitted to the problem and said they are working on it. Thanks Verizon for finally taking blame for it. I'll deal with it cause "they're working for me" or whatever bs phrase they have. Thanks for taking the ball out of my court.

I've been working on this for days now - MULTIPLE calls to VZW and Accuweather. Got the same response from Accuweather as above. Pointing the finger right back at VZW / VCast.

Today, I got a call from VZW this morning stating that they will be "blocking" the messages. My thought was that this certainly isn't a fix - just a bandaid. They still are being generated from somewhere. And... the "blocking' didn't do anything. I'm still getting them, more than one an hour all day since they are supposidly "blocking".

They NEED to get this fixed!!! I opened up another ticket just now.

EVERYONE who has this problem needs to call Data Support ASAP and open a ticket. Maybe they will realize THEY HAVE A PROBLEM if they have lots of open tickets on the same issue.

I received 22 messages yesterday and they say they are working on it. However, I have my doubts as they took months to fix it the first time. We need to all post our case numbers so we can use everyones case numbers together in our correspondance with Verizon. Also, please confirm the phone you started with and what you upgrade too.

I started with a RAZR VC3 and upgraded to a Q

They did something and told me to do the *228 +1. No change. I got about 10 since mindnight.

Again, STOP, END, QUIT, UNSUBSCRIBE and a few four letter words don't stop the thing.

Has it stopped for anyone else yet. I hate to admit this but I put the new software update for the Q on my phone (came out in January) and I haven't gotten one since. You actually have to back up your stuff in this one. I lost every text message I had from the past 8 months.

Ever since I switched back to my V60 (for temp) I've been getting the same messages. AS of yesterday they have totaly stopped. So maybe they figured it out. I never called tech support for this problem

I have been receiving these messages for the past month or so but couldn't figure out what they were. After reading this thread, I realized that they must be coming from Verizon. So I logged into Verizon VCast at http://getitnow-origin.vzwshop.com/...rowse&fp=Alerts and looked at My Alerts. Turns out that I had turned on an alert last year for baseball that worked with my old phone but doesn't work with my Treo. So when baseball season started, I started receiving these garbled text messages.

I just unsubscribed to that alert, so only time will tell if that solves the problem. You should check to see if you are subscribed to some alerts that may not be compatible with your phone.

I am getting messages up to 10x a day from 100198030192 and the body of the text always starts with //BREW:0x01034FD9:1,, then a bunch of code... I have no alerts setup... I just switched from the Voyager to a Treo 700P... VZW says that they reset my Get it Now account completely erasing everything from it and I shouldn't get anymore... that was 4 hours ago and guess what... ANOTHER MESSAGE JUST CAME IN!!!

This is sooooo frustrating... Verizon can't fix it and you cant enter the number to block it on the vtext site because its not a web or email address or a "nickname"... UGH

Does anyone know how to fix this???? I too am not subscribed to anything and it seems I am getting the alert when I receive an email. But this does suck!!

Glad to see that this problem is not just with me. I did go from the voyager to the pearl.

I just went from a voyager to the BB 8830 and I'm having the problem. I'm 99.9% sure it's because I used the "Mobile Email" app on the voyager, which was set to alert me with new email. I am going to call them up right now and see if I can figure anything out. I know it's been two months since there's been activity on this, so if anyone's been successful, let me know.

Call #88 from your cell phone, this will take you to Tech support.
Let them know that you went from a phone with VCAST to a PDA phone. They can look at the features on the account that deal with VCAST or even a PDA phone, ESPN MVP, Backup Assist, Etc. They can remove these from the account which will then make those messages stop.

I am having the same issue! How did you get it fixed?

My issue was when switching from a razr to a Q. Tech support at vzw had to switch my number to one of their test phones, and remove the offending alert.

Ok fellas found the problem and I know how to fix it. The issue that I discovered is that some people used to have the vcast Vpack (unlimited data for non advanced devices). This also gives you the ability to subscribe to the ESPN MVP services, if you had setup alerts with the ESPN MVP you will still receive them until they are unsubscribed, the typical ways of unsubscribing do not work (stop, end, quit) as has already been discussed previously in this forum.. When investigating I also discovered no alerts setup for the gentleman that I spoke with today.. Does any of this sound familiar to any of you? If so please feel free to call the Verizon tech support and advise them of this and request for a ticket to be opened with this information in there.

This also happens with Mobile Email. I switched from a Vcast phone to a smartphone and I continued to receive those weird errors until I called vzw and asked the to remove the mobile email. the typical methods of unsubscribing did not work.

It has been a while since I dealt with this, but your assessment sounds correct. If you switched phones, the things you were subscribed to on your previous phone, may not be compatible with your new phone. The tech that fixed mine, re-assigned my account to a 'test' phone that he had, and was able to un-subscribe from that phone. FYI, I went from a RAZR to a Q. Obviously, I had no access to vcast from the Q.

Ive noticed this on phones that had ESPN MVP alerts or had mobile email setup.. You need to remove those apps from the old phone before activating the PDA..

call Data Support and open a ticket..

This specific message is from mediaflo trying to update vcast mobiletv permissions. The daily messages should stop in a few days after switching from a mobiletv device to a smartphone. Hope this helps.

I've been getting these garbled up messages for a while on my HTC touch. But I am not with Verizon I am with US Cellular. So after reading up on other forums this is the info I have found.

1. The phones that are getting these error messages all seem to be non brew phones.

2. Some people said it was due to their gmail account set up on their phone.

3. US Cellular claims it is due to the contact backup application on my old phone which is not compatible with my new phone but keeps trying anyway.

The messages I get are from 10958 and about 10x a day. The messages all start out with // BREW and followe by mixed up code. Since the sender number is deffernet in this thread that probably indicates a different service. Nonetheless, the problem seems to be the same.

So as I was on my laptop, I replied to an email on gmail and within a few seconds I got the BREW message on my phone, and now I recall that the messages i got earlier were near the same time that I was sending and recieving emails in gmail. I just deleated the gmail account from my phone and will see if the messages stop. This post is in regards to the BREW messages coming from 10958.

When you say you deleted the gmail account from your phone, did you mean you reactivated your old phone, and deleted the gmail account from the BREW app that is sending these msgs to your new phone? Or did you delete the gmail account off of your new phone? Because if you did the latter you have to do the former.
