This morning my phones alarm went off...i opened it and it went to white screen...i restarted and it stayed in white screen though the phone appears to be working behind the white screen display. i tried taking out the battery and it still does it. I remember the battery was a bit low before so i started charging it.
the outside display works once i charged it some but the main display is still white
i have a USB data cable but i have no software or anything..is there anything to do to fix this?
Thanks a lot.

Sounds like WSOD that occurs with W600i.

Sounds like the WSOD that occurs with all Cingular branded SE phones. Trust me when they release the W810, they'll have messed it up so much it will WSOD just like the W600i, because they're so stubborn with their customizations.

This happened to me too today. I have an unlocked Cingy branded z520a. Luckily I have a bluetooth hotkey and can still perform all functions via PC, but I have to be around the house in order to call anyone or identify incoming calls.
Anyone know if there is a way to fix this problem by flashing, or another method? Cingular doesnt want to help me with anyhing because its an orange phone and im a blue.

^ Have it repaired under warranty.

I'm having the same exact problem. In my case, the phone worked fine for 11 months, but now I get the blank white screen when I open it. Or, occasionally, if you open it very slowly (seriously), the interior screen will display, but the picture continuously slides sideways. Otherwise, the phone seems to continue to function (if you know what keys to hit without being able to see the screen).
So I had them send me a new one under warranty. It has the same problem right out of the box! And yes, I'm certain I haven't confused the two phones. I find it astounding that the same issue would exist in a brand new phone unless it's an incredibly common flaw. Yet it doesn't seem that too many people are clamoring about it.
Is it possible that the SIM card or the battery (which were in the old phone) could be causing this issue? I can't imagine how.

When this happened to mine, I had it sent in for Warranty work. When it came back, it was working 100%. They replaced the LCD, Display Flex and Upgraded Firmware/Content according to the Work Order.

This is purely a hardware issue. After testing, I found out that it is NOT the "WSOD" problem, but a problem that seems to be specific to the z520. Judging from the frequency of this problem, I would say its a design flaw in the button that activates the main screen when the phone is flipped open. Phones that open easily, like the w300, dont seem to have this problem. The z520, however, has that "click" that locks the front open or closed.
I ordered some Torx tools, and I am going to take my z520 apart soon, so I'll post some pics on how to fix if I can figure it out.

it just happened to mine yesterday. the screen stays white, and the outer display is black
about 1/200 times i open it, the screen works but it scrolls sideways and stuff.
i also think it's a design flaw, but i think it involves the ribbon cable too. the phone thinks its open and closed at the same time.
EDIT: I just opened it up real slowly and it worked, but the screen still scrolled around. I did it twice in a row.

They sent me a third phone and it seems to be fine. The Z520a is a great phone when it's working.
The white screen thing always felt like a hardware problem to me, but the occasional sliding/broken image patterns always looked more like a software glitch. Very strange.

Yea this happened to me 2 days ago and i was pissed. I never got any insurance so i just decided to do an early upgrade and went ahead and got an lg lc500 so i can switch to 3g. wow is this a coincidence or what... the phone was only a year old!

Yea its the flex. But as for my "how-to," I bought a Torx driver off e-bay that was supposed to be the correct size, but ended up being ever-so-slightly different than the genuine tool, so it only removed half the screws. I got frustrated and did not want to buy another one, so just bought a w300 and forgot about it.

yea i have this same screen problem too but i dont want to turn it in for another since i have way too many important things saved other than just phone numbers. so any way i can fix it myself?

Ok everyone, the way to fix your phone 90% of the time is to buy a new flex cable and replace it.
Be careful though because the camera circuit/connectors are very easily damaged.
Just google it to find out exactly how to do it.

Mine started doing this just this past weekend. At first it was an occasional problem (1 out of 3 or 4 times) but now it is a constant problem. I've even left the battery out over night hoping it would reset and come on, but now I can't even enter the unlock codes for the phone.
Does anyone know of a way I can retrieve all of the information so that I can transfer it to my new phone???
