I tried hooking up my usb cable for the first time because I wanted to try transfering contacts. I attached it to my pc and it installed the drivers for it. I installed the SE PC suite software afterwards. It could not find my phone. So I rebooted and tried to attach my phone to the computer and windows did nothing this time, not even recognizing anything was attached. I tried different usb ports and then a different computer but nothing. I checked device manager and it doesnt' register any new devices being plugged in.

The phone does ask me if I want to use phone or file transfer mode when I plug in the usb. Either one I choose is not recognized by windows.

Any help would be appreciated.

in that case, i think you need to bring the phone to a SE authorized service center. there might be problems with the phone itself. perhaps, SW problem.

Hey, I just bought a W810i, and last night tried to hook it up to my PC and it wasn't recognized. I am pretty sure I installed the PC Suite software correct, but no go.

The phone would "See" that it was connected to a computer, and I would get the XP pop up tray box that said the device was "malfunctioning" as well.

The instructions for installing the software and using the connection wizard (and I assume driver install) are pretty vague in teh printed documents. Is there a better way to install the software and then hook up the phone to a computer that someone can recommend?

The phone seems to work just fine for calls and such, but can't connect to my PC!! Please help!!!

Well the solution to my problem for me was a defective usb cable. Got a new one and it now syncs fine with any computer. I guess I have too much faith in hardware and always think software is at fault.

Was there anything externally wrong with the USB cable that lead you believe it was the cable?? I just got my replacement in the mail, and it's charging up now.

Did you install the PC Suite software from the CD or from a download? Should the USB cable be plugged in to the computer when you're installing the PC Suite software (I know the phone shouldn't be connected during installation)?

Please let me know what you did... thanks!

Glad you got everything fixed. Just to follow up, I ended up thinking it was the cable as I could sync fine over bluetooth. After working with PCs over many years I've found it can always be a hard drive cable causing your operating system to malfunction, or a bad stick of ram. In this case the cable was just not good.

To detect it for the first time you should definitely install the PC Suite first then plug in the USB cable/phone. and windows should detect it right away while it's in phone mode.

I'm having the same problem. Just bought this phone off ebay and everything works fine but I can't connect it to the computer. It says the USB device has malfunctioned when I insert it... I've asked for a new cable that I'm waiting on right now. Hope it will work with the new cable. MazerRackham Is that what u did? Juat got a new cable. How did u get ur phone to work??

Maybe you have a problem with the configuration of your handset. Why don't you try re-configuring the product and then see what happens?
