Is it legal to purchase phones from overseas, flash and or flex these phones for use on US networks and sell them?

Posted by: STi_Fanatic

Yeah....that's what Cingular and T-Mobile do....

In all seriousness though, as long as you are paying proper taxes and fees, it's a free market economy.

It is only illegal if you get caught.

I don't see how this can possibly be construed as illegal in any way shape or form. It's a real who cares scenario. I'd rather our LEOs spend their day busting drug smugglers, pedophiles and terrorists not running down cell phone modders. As long as you aren't illegally accessing the network to get free air time it wouldn't matter to anyone.

No way it's not legal....You can flash or flex as you like...You still pay for the phone and for the airtime......

So correct me if i am wrong i do not have to worry about software licensing for the phone software from the phone vendor or from the carrier for their flash/ flex version usage?

Sounds way too easy.

Are you all sure???

It sounds like a good plan, but do you really think that you will be able to make money on this? You will have to find a wholesaler that will give you a great deal on the phones so that you can make any kind of a profit that will be worth your time in this.

Stick to the facts. Is it Legal. Does anyone with the proper backround know?

I can see where you might think that this is illegal. The tools that you need to flex and flash a phone (RSD Lite) are warez, BUT there are other ways to flash a phone. As far as I know, the actual flex/flash files themselves aren't illegal to posses.

This is a funny topic haha. its not illegal but it will void the warranty offered by Motorola and your carrier.

Posted by: Paolo

its NOT illegal, but if the seller makes any CLAIMS that the phone has a Canadian or American warranty when selling it with a north american branding, then that could pose possible troubles, or its also very plausable these re-branded imports may be denied service by motorola because the Tanapa numbers do not match the region they are sold for. Customer must be aware of this when buying phones from this guy and should agree to those conditions before buying.

my friend bought a V3i from ASIA, it came with asian software on it, he got it flashed with rogers software on it, sent it in to motorola cus there was a problem with it, but they sent it back stating it was not a north american phone.

it will NOT be legal if you state that they still have any warranty left in them when you sell it

btw, im not sure how many people would buy phones without a warranty
