How do you all use contacts for phone purposes on 8125?

I'm looking for some advice, I just switched from my Nextel i860 to the Cingular 8125. The guy at the Cingular store was awesome enough to hook both my old and new phones up to a device that transfered the numbers. This was great! Problem is now i'm having a logistical problem... i sync to an exchange server and thus have various corporate contacts that i don't really plan on calling from the 8125.

I had all of my copied contacts from my nextel on the sim in the 8125, and i went into sim manager and copied them to contacts. This resulted in many double or sometimes tripple data entry (as many people had multiple numbers). I consolidated these into single outlook contacts but now is the problem.

What is yoru advice, or how do you currently deal with this. I just want my personal contacts to be easily accessible on the phone when i wanna make a call. I know i can set speed dials for my "best" friends, or even use voice dialing. I did go through all my contacts today and category them as either personal or business, so that i can filter. But since i can't find a way to have the filter default that way, i have to keep setting the filter everytime i wanna make a phone call.

Any tips and experience would be great.

Thanks! and sorry for the long post, was just tryin to fully explain.

I am not sure their is anything that can be done in regards to your problem. When you fliter it next time you to your contacts it should still be on that filter. The only solution to this is either
A. Delete any contacts you wont use (dont synce the contacts when you connect to your exchange server)
B. Find a peice of third party software that manages them (Essential Contax PRO on handango.com. I have never used the software but my freind tells me it is very good)

I could do the delete the contacts i don't need but then if i need to update one contact i'm gonna get them all back, and i dont' wanna play that game everytime i want to update.
regarding the filter though, seems like it doesn't stay filtered, keeps giong back to all contacts. Any advice as to how to fix?

I somewhat had the same issue but I use activesync. I've been syncing my work/home outlooks with my 8125.

I found having all my work contacts made using Voice Commander harder with so many like names. I just removed them all and decided not to sync contacts. In activesync I can tell it not too sync contacts.

This way I just sync my Calendar and tasks which is what I was going for anways.

I came up with a workaround. I created a shared contacts on our exchange server called IT Contacts, since i'm the IT manager. These are mostly vendor support, account managers, and other people i like to have on file on my computer when i need them, but dont' need that at my fingertips 24 x 7 ( on the 8125)
So i moved all my non-personal contacts to this folder and now my contacts are pretty much all personal.

My next task is to setup voice dialing.... i'll search the form about this and post if need be.

Thanks!

When you update just make sure you dont sync your contacts. I will speak to my freind since I only work with Server 2003 on corparate servers I have not used exchange yet.

Their is a way im sure thought to make sure exchange dose not sync your contacts. You just need to set it up not to.

OH, i know you can do it on the device, you can choose what gets synced, but i think this was an easier solution....
