First sorry for my ignorance but i read a lot of posts in here..but don't get it what flash or firmware means..

Im in China right now..and thinking of buying a Hongkong version 903SH

i can clearly see that there are lot of problems going on here with 903 or 902 such as cannot send SMS, internet..signal..etc...

Ok here are teh questions

1. Just wondering if i buy a Hongkong version 903 SH, can i use it NZ without any problem? able to use all the function? (eg. SMS,MMS, 3G..etc.)

2. Just met a guy yesterday..and he said i can use the japanese 903 if i just change something (Couldn't understand what he was talking about in chinese)

so...please give me some advice............

thanks

The 903SH with HK firmware should be fine in NZ... and if you don't need Chinese input, then the Euro firmware is good also... see this thread for firmwares differences...

Also, I wouldn't buy one inside Mainland China, too risky with too many fake components... go to HK and buy it...

I second that opinion... although HK isn't totally failproof for this, HK is victim to dodgy sharp stuff. Say, my sister bought a second hand 902SH.... of all the things that was included in the HK$1580, only the phone and battery cover were genuine. The battery, charger and handsfree were all non-OEM. eew. don't ask me why she was happy paying that price (she didnt even BOTHER testing the phone NOR bargaining for it) - when i buy a second hand phone, at least I have the intention replacing half the parts.... Take an old Motorola A1000, I replaced the keypad, back, housing, power switch, top game buttons, battery cover, a fair few components there... If I bought that 902SH, which was orange might I add, I would have bargained a bit or something or buy a second phone to getthe price down and sell the other on eBay..... and get genuine parts like charger, battery, etc. have it all replaced, perhaps even housing too.

doesnt matter what firmware you get, all will work in NZ. all features should work. except for video calling (unless you are on a 3g network) or MMS

Damn, sorry to hear that... dishonest seller

True HK is still not failproof for this, same with eBay... however, the chances are still much much lower than Mainland China... although she got the battery, charger and handsfree replaced with non-OEM, but in China, she might even get the main phone board replaced too... Not sure if they have the exact copy of a 903SH, but I've seen some exact copies of SE and Philips phones... They can sell you a phone using a genuine case but with a China made board...

This is why I'd never buy any electronics in Mainland China, I'd rather pay more and get genuine stuff... in HK, if you go in a well known store, it's pretty safe, but in China, even a well known store might have some knock-offs... For buying water-goods in HK, always check everything before paying, and always check a few stores and bargain first...

Thanks for the replies..I agree that buying electronic stuff in mainland china is too risky...no offence but seen too many fake stuff..so....

Anyone knows which shop is good to buy it in HK? and where i can buy it??

I saw that 903 sold in NZ for around NZD1500!!!

For the 903 sold in NZ..is it using the Europe firmware?

Wait- it's possible to create fake phones that act the same as the real thing? I always buy phones in mainland China (I REALLY want to go to HK, but I just can't find the chance to with school and everything) and now I'm afraid that the phone (well, it's a Toshiba, not a Sharp- 904T) I bought a week or so ago is a fake. Is there any way to tell?

ya mainland china is now for its fake stuff. not only phones but almost everything from cosmetics to baby powder milk. i remember on some web site that showed some china made w800i. it looks almost exactly the same as the w800i but in a different casing which the screen is slanted and spelled sony ericsson wrong.

here is the link to it

actually there IS a difference.... sizewise as well as the quality of the plastic. I'll admit, the fraudsters ARE getting better at making a fake product appear genuine, but there are still flaws.... dodgy plastic quality is a first, Sharp's plastic is pretty superior, much MUCH better than a Motorola's plastic, and better than Nokia plastic imo. The other thing is that fake phones will run a different firmware (i.e. not a Sharp one , because there is no way they can 100% recreate a Sharp 903, so if you DO buy one, there are ways of telling, however you probably need to have some hands on expeience with Sharps, or phones at the very least.)
