every time i try to connect my phone to my laptop (which happens to be a sony vaio ) and use the pc suite that came with the phone it says no phone found even though my comp was able to install the drivers for the phone. the only thing i can do is if i change my usb settings on the phone to mass storage i can see my memory card in my "my computer screen" and i can transfer items like pics and music to the card, i just want to be able to back my phone up just incase. i did update the phones firmware the same day i got it, that was the first thing i did, but i havent been able to use pc suite at all. any help would be great, thanx

ps:so far i love phone, the only thing i would've like to have is some sort of directional pad like on the MDA, either that or put the damn wheel on the right where it belongs.

Do you have m-router active?

That needs to be running in order to set up the connection.

Posted by: raphymartinez

it is running but it wont find my phone. when i plug in the usb cable nothing happens but like i said if i switch to storage mode i can add and remove files from my memory card.

What is the complete name of the PC Suite you're using (click start>all programs>sony ericsson)? Is it Sony Ericsson PC Suite for Smartphones?

The reason why I ask this is I have two versions of PC Suite on my computer: Sony Ericsson PC Suite for Smartphones and Sony Ericsson PC Suite. The first is for my m600i and the second for my W810i. Sony Ericsson PC Suite does not work with the m600i (at least I couldn't get it to work).

When I plug in my m600i, I never get asked which mode I want. When I plug in my w810i, I have to choose a mode.

it's the pc suite for smartphones, it came on the disc i got with the M600i. ive tried uninstalling everything from the pc and installing it again but nothing changes.

Are you using the newest version of the PC Suite for Smartphones?

You can get version 1.1.9 from the UK site:

I have found that the connection on the USB cable that enters my phone is the cause when I have this problem. The right prong doesn't seem to enter the phone correctly and I have to jiggle it a few times and then it works.

Try that, it might happen that you have same problem.

i was able to get it to work on my other pc so i guess ill just keep it syncd to that one and just give up on the laptop thing. thanx for the help.

i am experiencing the exact same thing as raphymartinez, but I don't have an alternative machine to try. I've checked that im using the latest pc software for smart phones and when I connect the usb to my computer the computer acknowledges its presence. The SE software, however, does not. The initial search for my SE m900i yields "no phone recongnize/connected". Please help.

do you have the USB charging allowed? or not allowed?
last night, i had a trouble connecting to my labtop and wondered what i have done differently from the night before when it worked flawlessly. I realized i had changed the USB charging not to be allowed and for some reason the comp didn't recognize the phone being connected.. once i set USB charging allowed again, and reconnected the phone, the comp recognized it being connected... weird, i know.. but try it.. maybe it'll work for you too..

Exact same problem that i am having with my p990. I even spent hours on the phone with SE who finally told me to call a company called "hiwired" and PAY for support since they couldnt fix it. Needless to say "hiwired" was USELESS.

now after hours of work and $45 worth of useless service, i am no better off than i was before!

I'd recommend anyone having problems with connecting the M600i or the P990i with their PC, to check out www.esato.com and my-symbian.com discussion forums.

There are many, many, many more UIQ users on those boards, so you have a better chance of either finding out people with similar problems (and their solutions) or are more likely to find someone to point you in the right direction.

Sorry, but that is the best I can do.

im also having a connecting problem. It connects and everything but i cant excess my file manager. Evereything is connected (m router etc) and everything is being read by my comp. But when i open the file manager and click the icon of my phone, there are no sub folders. When i tried this last week it worked but when i tried to today it doesnt work. HELP!!!!!

If you're using Windows XP, go to Control Panel/Phone Monitor and enable (and reserve) the comm ports used by your phone (refer to device list in Control Panel/System).

The best thing to do is always download your SE PC Suite from SE website.
They provide the latest pc suite on their website.
I had problems with the pc suite that comes in the box.
Uninstall your current pc suite and install the one you download from SE website. (pc suite for smarthphones)
