V262 Front Display Woes

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've had the V262 for about a year now, and I carry it in my pocket alllllll the time. So go figure, the display on the front of the phone is coated in dust and tiny fibers, all underneath the plastic cover.

For reference:

Sorry about the watermark, I just googled a quick picture.

You can hardly read the display now if you have front lighting, so it's more or less blank outside and in the sun, unless you open it up and close it which turns the back lighting on. That wasn't so bad.

But now, there's a plastic or rubber seal that's falling off, underneath the plastic cover for the same display, and is starting to cover the screen. It's almost completely covering the signal strength portion, which again, isn't terrible, but sure is annoying to look at.

Is there ANY way I can open up the front cover and potentially fix these things without damaging the phone any further?

Yes. The front cover is removable. You can remove it, clean the lens, reattach or discard the rubber gasket and snap the cover back on again. If you have the owner's manual, look on page 12. If you don't have the manual, I've summarized here:
************************************************** *****
Removing a Flip Cover:

Insert your fingertip or
fingernail into the slot at the
base of the flip cover, then
firmly pull up and lift the cover
from the phone.

Notes:
• Do not use tools to remove a flip cover. Using tools to
remove a flip cover will damage the cosmetic
appearance of the phone.
• The flip cover is attached tightly to the phone.
Considerable force is required to remove it.

Attaching a Flip Cover:

Insert the tabs at the top of the
cover into the slots at the top
end of the phone, then push
the cover down to snap it into
place.
************************************************** *****

Actually, I have more luck starting from each side near the bottom, rather than at the bottom of the flip. Good strong fingernails are a must!

Whew, a few bent fingernails later (dang that thing was really on there), I managed to pop the cover off. I was shocked at how dirty it was! Around the bottom there was a thick bar of dust and lint built up that managed to come off in a single piece.

It's looking much nicer now, thanks a bunch!
