Hello guys,

I got a Cingular 8125. I have some questions about it:

1) I cant seem to get online to MediaNet, to the homepage, I can go to IE and type in google.com or whatever but MediaNet Home is not working. Can some one please help me?

2) I have a family plan account with 3 lines: the first line mine: is using a 8125, I was using a 6682 before, but I switched the 2nd line to that phone, as that line was a RAZR V3 and then the 3rd line was a V551, so this line is using a V3, should I call Cingular and let them know of these changes?

3)I purchased some ringtones before through cingular, is there any way I can get them back?

4)What screen protecter would you guys recommend?

1. Tap Start menu - Settings - Connections (page tab) Connections, Advanced (page tab), Select Networks (button). Select MEdiaNet from the first drop down list and tap OK. Note that this gives you access to the MEdiaNet portal, but you may have problems connecting to WiFi until you change that drop down list for programs that connect to the Internet back to My ISP.

2. There is no need to call Cingular to report those changes, unless the line(s) have insurance.

3. Nope. You'd need to buy the ringtones again.

4. I can't comment on screen protectors as I've never seen a use for them.

Thank you for that info filled post.

1)That seemed to fix it up for me. Thanks for that.

2)The 8125 line has insurance and the 6682 has it, the V3 dosent. so I am unsure of what to do

3) That is no problem. I may however be able to call CS up and see that they can do.

4) The screen protectors, maybe some one else will comment on them.

The insurance issue can get tricky. Cingular doesn't insure PDA's so they won't cover the 8125. In this case, Cingular will remove insurance for that line. You can move around the insurance for the 6682 by reporting the phone swapping. This one shouldn't give you any problems since both the previous line and the current line are part of your family plan.

what should I do then

I'd report the changes so they can remove the insurance for the 8125. If they are not going to cover it then what's the point of paying each month for the insurance? I'd also report the changes of the other line that has insurance to ensure the correct phone is covered.

so what are the best screen protectors? Also, what is the best way to clean the screen?

Why is media net slow on the phone even though I am in an Edge area?

Any screen protector (bought in bulk from Best Buy, etc...) will work until you find a more expensive one that fits you.

Wirelessly posted (Cingular 8125 (2.25 Rom): Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))

I'm using the universal screen protector from best buy. Just use an exacto knife and a ruler to slice a nice straight edge on it and you're good to go. I'm glad it came in like a 10 pacl though... I messed the first 2 I did up, haha

Does your internet get stuck on "Locating" for long periods of time? Or is your connection slow? Try dslreports.com/mspeed for a speedtest.

It gets stuck on Locating for long periods of time. Once it gets going its pretty speedy from there.

I suggest trying to change your DNS server. Search these forums for a how-to. It will either fix your problem (like it did for me) or it wont do anything. Its worth a try.

I cant seem to locate these settings. If anyone has a link to these that would be great.

what do you guys use to clean the screen?
What screen protectors are good besides the one from BestBuy?

Does Cingular require you to have any special package for data with this device?

Boxwave makes some of the best screen protectors. Javoedge protectors look decent as well and are priced a little cheaper.

brando blue (not ultra clear-pink) works pretty well, or get EXiM SPOC (it works well on my 6270 & 6680)

lightly damped cotton cloth is good enough, just wipe the screen gently
officially you should get PDAConnect option, but some here says MEdia will work

The thread is on the front page:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=985298

- From the Start Menu, select 'Settings', then select the 'Connections' tab
- Select the 'Connections' option
- Select the first of the two 'Manage Existing Connections' options
- Highlight your main Internet connection, and click edit
- Click 'Next'
- This page should say 'general.t-mobile.uk' on T-Mobile UK, 'orangeinternet' on Orange UK, or something different if you're with someone else... Click 'Next'
- Click 'Advanced'
- Click 'Servers'
- Click 'Use specific server address' and enter DNS as '217.115.138.24', Alt DNS as '83.217.93.246'. You can leave both WINS settings as '0.0.0.0' at this stage.
- Click 'OK'
- Click 'Finish'

I use the OpenDNS servers: 208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220 (just use these numbers instead of the ones in the how-to) but you can use whatever DNS you like... maybe even host your own if your so inclined.

I appreciate all of the replies and all of the infromation given. I had another question: I cant seem to find an automatic time update feature? Does this phone have it? I will be going to a different time zone other then EST which I am in now. So is there feature anyway or is there a 3rd party app or something. Just let me know.

Thanks

you may try NITZ enable cab, which can be found on T-Mobile MDA
pm me with your email to try (this cab will change your registry to enable NITZ)
notice: this cab is NOT removable once it's installed

I'm sorry, but I've searched the Forum and can't seem to find a solution for this... my 8125 is having the same problem as described in the beginning of the thread... I can view the MediaNet hompage, but it looks different and I can't access MyAccount, buy anything. Previously, the page showed me content that was available for the device I was connecting with, but now, it is a generic page that prompts me for a username and password, like the computer-based version of My Account in HTML. This all happened after I flashed my phone with the Cingular 2.26 Aku2.3 w/a2dp ROM.
