Should I get the Motorola RAZR V3i?

I'm thinking of getting the Motorola RAZR V3i, on ebay. Is it a good deal? I've heard that it has awesome reception, and excellent voice quality with AMR-HR disabled, and i will disable that. And the battery is so-so, but i can live around that. And the camera is decent, and I don't use the web that much. But I am a text message junkie, so is the Motorola V3i easy to text on? I've really never used iTap. thanks for your help

The Motorola V3i is a gimmicky overpriced piece of garbage. The camera is outdated. Battery is not that good, It can be frustrating! If you like texting, go with something with a keyboard on it, i'm telling ya it's so much easier.

what's small and is current, and is a half decent phone, and has a keyboard on it?

I'd say the siemens sk65, you can get one off ebay. It's not too big and it has a hidden keypad, although i'm not sure of the battery life. The only thing you lose is a camera (don't know if thats a must for you). Otherwise I suggest the 8125.

For texting on motorolas you would have to like itap as opposed to t9 (assuming you use predictive text).

ya but those two phones are huge, I loved my Nokia 6820, but it broke and don't want to get another, because i want a pretty curent phone. What do you guys think of the Moto V3i? get it or no?

Well that's entirely up to you. I say no, but that's just my opinion. But hey, if you don't like it you can always put it back up on ebay!

I think itap is better than t9 at this point. It populates in the words as you type them, so you don't have to type the entire word. That being said, I like the way the SE's do everything--their user interface is so intuitive and easy, and texting is a snap as it keeps your regular text receivers in the "send to" list.

You won't be able to get a phone with a keyboard at this point that's not a smartphone. If you're looking for a phone that is simple to use, attractive, and has all of the extras, go to sony ericsson's website and browse their selection. Then see what you can get it for on ebay.

I would have to agree with tdawgmd, itap is much better than t9.

The V3i is a good phone overall. You just need to look at what features you will be using. Personally, the camera on v3i is fine for me, because it is better than the original RAZR's camera, but I also have a seperate digital camera if I need to take really great quality photos. The MP3 player option is nice, whether you go with the itunes version or not. I think the biggest improvement over the original RAZR is the expandable storage (microSD slot or transflash), as I have been able to store more ringtones, games, and other stuff on the v3i opposed to when I had the v3. It doesnt cost a lot more than the v3, yet you get a lot of features. Whether you use those features or not, is entirely up to you...

thanks for your help. I think i just might get it, just so that i can make it better, as in hacking. Why do some people think it's a bad phone? what's wrong with it?

I think most people rag on this phone for two reasons: the fact that cingular is still delaying its release and that it only has GPRS (very slow) internet connection. But if you don't use the internet a lot, then i think it's a really good phone. Are there better phones on the market? Probably some. Are there a lot of phones that are worse? Definitely so. I would say it's a good phone that could have been even better with faster net connection.

i don't even use the internet that much, maybe just to check the weather or so, but that's about it. And all i want is a slim, good speakerphone, and a music player, and just something with decent reception and call quality. And the V3i nails all of those. Plus I can use some HoFo hacks to make this phone even better. i think now i might get it...

For me at least:

Either you get a 50 song limit or a 100 song limit for the non-branded ones. As for Cingular it should be 100. I hate the fact that there is a limit on this phone as I have put 250+ on my non-iTunes phone and have not had one single problem yet unless I use DAP or the Sounds Player Playlist functiion on my iTunes version I'm stuck at 100. Other then this I PERSONALLY love this phone and again PERSONALLY this is one of the best Moto's I have owned.

Posted by: llkoola1

ya i'm getting an unbranded version, and I think I can hack into it to make it 100 song limit, if it's set to 50. Otherwise, I know it's not an iPod, but 100 songs is just good for a short ride in the car, just enough to put all your favorites.

FYI,

If you get the 50 song limit your stuck at 50. There is no way at this point around it unless you add DAP and or the Sounds Player Playlist function.

well i ordered it today, so hopefully I'll love it...

how bout back on topic?

Posted by: llkoola1

well I ordered the iTunes version, with the iTunes key on it from ebay. I'm wondering if anybody has used a Micro SD 1 GB card in their Moto RAZR V3i, and will that work? Somebody on phonescoop says it works, but on the website and around it says that it can only support 512 MB.

Don't think that's going to be from Cingular, nobody knows when that's coming out in any of my stores by me.

does the Motorola RAZR V3i have good reception? Because my Nokia 6820, Motorola V180, SE Z500a, can't get good reception only maybe 3 bars upstairs but can't hold that. Will the Moto maybe hold those bars? and i hate snail mail cuz it's SOOO slow, i just wanna hav my moto now!
-llkoola1

Posted by: Billusa

I gett very good reception on mine on its original software. As soon as I flashed it with the ...A1R software, I got a second bar inside my home, which was always at 1 bar before that. So, YES, it has great reception as far as I am concerned.

Posted by: filburt

As far as the reception is concerned, RAZR V3 (earlier version notwithstanding) and V3i are top notch (SLVR L7, on the other hand, is only so so). Audio quality is a tad below top notch, at least when compared to some of the Nokia phones, but very good quality overall (especially if disable AMR HR). I am rather ticked that unlocked V3i from eBay will be cheaper than 2-year contract from Cingular, but I guess by the holiday season, V3i's price will fall down.
