Vodafone-branded Sharp 705SH, 904SH, 905SH production stopped

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Most of you know now that Softbank-branded versions of the above phones have appeared. Well, ITMedia is now claiming that Sharp has cut all production of the Vodafone-branded versions of these phones.

That means the blue 905SH; light blue, black and purple 904SHs and gold, silver and black 705SHs are going to vanish once stock of them runs out in Japan. Considering that production of the Softbank-branded models/colours is still going, those six model colours probably won't last too long.

yah Softbank bought them out and have plans to compltely turn the tables and make VOdafone into a sucess story like it was several years ago. It's going to be called Softbank as from October, however the changes are happening.... fast.... perhaps a little too fast and faster than some of us anticipated, but the change is here, whether we like it or not, for the good or bad, Softbank is here to stay, and if they can do a good job turning the company around, then I'd say: Go for it!!

For years, Vodafone was one of the foreign owned companies in Japan that did well, but as you know, it's demise was due to it's poor features in handsets (although us westerners still loved them), as well as crappy coverage. Another reason was, and still is, is that DoCoMo and Au by KDDI have the monopolies over Vodafone, and it's like a whole "i can't get through to him because he's on Vodafone" or something like that as I read a year ago off a news article or somewhere, this might be referring to their mail standards not being able to be passed from one provider or anothr, this might ahve changed, I can't rememebr where I read that or what it was about, so take it as a grain of salt or however that line with the salt goes.

This morning, Tuesday of August 22, I've got surprised when I saw a Vodafone Shop at the 1st floor of my apartment building are being rebranded... This afternoon, the typical "red" vodafone has vanish and replaced by two silver stripes with white background of Softbank's logo (the original logo of Softbank should be yellow-white). The shop which previously dominated with red, now becoming white... Some models of Softbank 705SH and 905SH has appeared (not yet for Softbank 904SH)...

Posted by: Junglizt1210

PICTURES please of the shops (perhaps taken with some of your Sharp phones )

Only two I've been able to find on the net:

Looks more like a restaurant or something...

Posted by: Junglizt1210

yea i agree. doesn't look like a phone shop anymore lol.

or worse, a bank of sorts. they just need one of them cardboard cuttouts of some dude wearing glasses and a suit holding some sign about interest rates or savings or something.

It's the Soft... Bank! all squidgy inside! they can have them beanbag chairs too (if you live in the Uk and remember this, I'm referring to the BT advert several years ago)

Posted by: angel_wing0

lol Junglizt1210

angel_wing0, most people are not familiar with the name SoftBank, but this company is bigger than most people think... they're ranked #5 this year in InfoTech 100 Companies... They also own Yahoo Japan...

Here some pictures that I've took using my V904SH ... You can see clearly in some part of the pictures, a red "vodafone's stuff" still left at some part of the shops. Btw, I live at 5th floor of that building

I dunno... but I like the Vodafone name/logo more... and I'm a fan of Google, not Yahoo (Y!)...

Vodafone is all about the banding. And banding in Japan is different from the rest of the world. And we all know Japan supports domestic stuff.

Seriously though. The Softbank logo looks hidious. But Japanese may find it good. DoCoMo's logo looks a lot better IMO.

Posted by: cb0288

I think they should work on their symbol... kind of plain just using an equal sign.

great info...thank you

Is this just for Vodafone Japan? I mean it wouldn't be THAT bad if the rest of the world's Vodafones turned into SoftBanks (and certainly would help Yahoo get more attention), but I'm not quite sure.

just voda japan...not voda of the entire world

I'm actually afraid that after this Softbank rebranding, their phones will not be carried by Vodafone around the world (at least some of it... like 903 in HK, etc...)

I hope they don't drop GSM too...

i'm afraid of that.... however on another note (though not sure if it's as good), DoCoMo is gradually releasing more GSM compatible phones.... there are two SIMPURE models that can roam outside Japan although I can't remember if they are dual mode W-CDMA/GSM or W-CDMA which are quite nice imo.

Posted by: yangj08

Does this mean that more attention will be paid to unlocking DoCoMo phones? Oh- I found the SIMPURE models you were talking about- the SIMPURE L and the SIMPURE N. Yes, those are GSM-capable. The SIMPURE L seems to be an LG phone- I've seen it elsewhere before. That might help unlocking efforts if it's been released elsewhere (maybe under a different model name). The Motorola V3x seems to be part of this list. There are also 3G roaming-capable handsets- the N902iS and the P902iS. Those would be good in countries with 3G only (except the US- WHY USE 1900MHz?) This list also includes the M702iS, which seems to be the normal RAZR with the GSM substituted for 3G. Can't imagine that selling at all. (note that if this seems hard to understand, I apologize)
