D807 - recommend?

I see a few threads here on the D807- comparing it to Cu500, and addressing a possible recall. I didnt see follow up though.
the Premier site is currently running specials on these - making it $104 with contract - and while I was waiting for 6126, it looks like that isnt gonna happen.
what has been some of your experiences with the D807? phone scoop pretty much concentrates on the battery life problem, which seems to be common among "fancy" phones now. How is the reception? I see in the thread about earpiece volume - has this been fixed/hacked like with the razr? as a PHONE, would you recommend this to others?
