"Japanese" 903SH, with no Japanese support?!

OK so I just got a 903SH off ebay, and before I bought it I even asked the guy if it had the Japanese firmware and he says yes. So I got the phone today, and it even has the hiragana characters on the keys and everything, but when I go to switch the language from English, the only other choices are Traditional/Simplified Chinese. Help!

That phone has the Hong Kong Firmware of the Sharp 903sh, known as the Sharp sx833 in HK. Just what are you going for with the need for Japanese text support?

Anyway, the only way to get Japanese support on it is either through a pack that has Japanese characters or to get the phone reflashed to Japanese firmware. I say you stick with what you have, because the Japanese firmware has lots of headaches associated with it. You should get some cash back from the seller since he lied to you about the phone... or file an ebay claim against him.

Well this is disappointing. I send him an email to see what he has to say, but it looks like I will be sticking with the HK firmware. I *did* want to be able to input japanese, but it's not a deal breaker. If there is any way I can get the displaying of jp to work, please let me know where/how I can get that info if possible. Thanks.

You can flash the firmware of your phone to jp firmware if you'd like. it'll cost u some money tho unless you got hookups.

I just got a response back from the seller of the phone. I asked him if he could explain why he sent a phone with a different firmware than he told me it had, and this was the response:

--cut--
yes !! sure !!
because the phone unlocked !!
if i have not unlock the phone this is only showing japanese but only use in japan
phone cannot use in worldwide ,

after unlocked , the languages are s.chinese , t.chinese and english but phone can use worldwide
you don't know that ?

bullsh*t! he said it had JP firmware.

You didn't ask if it was a japanese phone, there are many 903s out there that are unlocked and have Japanese firmware on it.

btw, what's the name of this guy and where is the seller from. I think I dealt with this guy before....

also, do you have the emails you sent him? I'd rather blame him for his mistake (and lack of knowledge)

Having said that I am pretty sure a the SX833 firmware can display although not input Japanese - my sis has a 902SH with SX813 f/w on it and it displays Japanese fine, although can't type.

Posted by: bparker05

Well one of the main reasons I got this phone was for jp input. I tried a few websites to see if the display would work, some did, some were just garbled, but mainly I want the input ability more than anything.

The guy that sold you the phone is either an idiot or a clever fraudster. He should have specified that the phone you were getting was flashed with Chinese firmware.

His reply comment that you pasted above is no excuse - the phone can be unlocked using ANY firmware version. I would be getting him to accept a refund or give a free flash of the phone very fast, because what he's done is extremely unethical.

where u got it from ?

Posted by: borgis

the seller might also be just another noob with sharps and doesn't know about the run arounds with it's firmwares. probably when he still have the phone and had it unlocked to an unlocker, the unlocker could have flashed it to HK too. so the first owner could have thought that once it got unlocked it will automatically change to that firmware

Hence the term idiot.

I agree. It's the seller's fault for selling you a phone with the wrong firmware. Where did you buy it from? I guess you should've asked him which firmware version it is by inputting the code.

Posted by: Kevbodian

the code doesnt always work, depending on flash files used.

i dont think i would send my phone back to a person like this for a reflash.

it will cost you a bit, but im sure you can find someone in your area who can flash your phone to the japanese firmware for you.

what i'll do is file a claim w/ ebay and give the guy a negative feedback for having little knowlege of his products

then after get it flashed to jp fimware and u'll be on your way depending on where u go it can cost from 60 usd to 90 usd to get a 903 flashed ( there's this place in seattle near bell's fair mall he said he'll flash my 903 for 85usd *cough* rip *cough* )

Posted by: bparker05

What's the best way to find someone in my area that can do this?
