No Java OTA onto P800

FYI, I finally got a response from SE on the issue of downloading (OTA) java applications onto the P800. In a word, it ain't possible. All Jar/Jad's have to be tether loaded or IR loaded.

Hopefully a future FW release will resolve this issue.
Hopefully SE will "get a clue" at some point.

sorry, but what do you mean (OTA)? anyway, I have no problem downloading java application to p800 thru cradle, wap and web.

Cool, maybe you have a later version of the firmware or something. Its interesting that the Support rep at SE admits that the WAP browser does not support OTA of java applications.

OTA is Over-the-Air. For java applications it is a SUN specification that most handset manufacturers and infratructure providers are following to deliver J2ME applications to wireless subscribers.

I have no problems with cradle or IR loading, but clearly WAP OTA doesn't work.

I have been sucessful in receiving and installing java apps OTA. You may receive java apps via pop3/imap mail and install from the P800.

Thats good, but its not OTA.

OTA compatibility allows you to browse to differnt locations on your phone, such as operator game portals, retail portals, or midlet repositories, and request a download inside you WAP browser. The WAP browser (and in some instances a Java Application Manager, or JAM) will go through a download prcess resulting with an application on your device.

Its not a big deal, but I was just hoping that the P800 was a viable java platform as it appears to have a lot of good things going for it.

Installing the app received OTA:

I've downloaded numerous ringtones, mms templates, received email with photos attached, etc. and it was downloaded and installed on my phone. The only problem I have ever had is if a download exceeds the memory available. Once again, I believe someone is relying to much on customer service reps who really don't know much of anything about a product. They just answer the phone.

Wow, any tips and tricks? Do you have a later firmware than R1B? One thing I notice is that either I have a different browser than you, or I am doing it wrong. My browser has the menu items Internet and Edit, yours has Web and Edit.

Well said. I have posted pix above; their theory is now defunct

It`s Opera browser, it is a freeware download that you can find @ sonyericsson.com. Another thing: I believe that OTA download of aplications is connected to JAVA SIM card, has nothing to do with the phone itself. We will be getting some JAVA enabled cards soon so I will let know, but I am pretty sure about that...
