Treo 650 Reset Questions

I'm curious as to what the difference between a hard reset and zero-out reset is. Since I'm selling my Treo 650 I want to make sure that all private data is deleted, but I don't want to fully delete the applications which came pre-loaded from Cingular. Basically, I want it at the state it was in when I got it new from the store and turned it on for the first time. Also, this may sound stupid, but will doing a reset change its unlocked state? Thanks in advance.

a zero out reset writes zeroes to the ram whereas a hard reset just reformats it. A zero out will completely eradicate all data while a hard reset can leave some traces behind. which is why its a good idea to zero out every time you hard reset because those minute little leftovers will gunk up your ram over time & cause problems. no reset will erase the preloaded apps though, those are in the rom & are permanent.

no reset can unlock the phone however.
