Thanks for the info......

This is nuts ay; put the phone on the bas station and then use the browser (you will extra happy if you have a cable connection):wowwow:

Yep, you get connected to your PC's internet connection in stead of GPRS/dialup. It works through IR too, but the best way is to use it through Bluetooth, that way you can lay in your bed, sit on the John etc.. surfing the web for free on your phone!

How do you configure your phone to do that!? I have a bluetooth connection to the computer right now. If I use Opera, it fires up good ol' gprs and start using that; it doesn't use my computer's broadband.

For some reason, bt is so flacky with the connection between pc and p800, running 3com usb bt, and windows 2k, or xp, same results, very very shaky connection, if at all

Posted by: dapope

How do you set up the p800 to connect via bt to your pc ? when not connected via usb? i only see options for gprs and dial up.
thanks in advance

I installed Opera. As always, thank you Howard and members for getting us this information.

But hold on.......... After I did the install I looked up a few sites and the speed was lightning fast. My desktop is attached to the net via a T1. The only way this could have been happening is that the P800 was smart enough to connect through my desktop.

Neat feature.

Hmmm, that's strange... Opera should normally choose BT over GPRS.
Do you use the P800 PC-suite?

Posted by: LRLR

It was on the USB base and definitely using my desktop's Internet connection. Note, that at the time I had no signal on the phone. If I did have a signal perhaps it would have defaulted to that although I hope it doesn't.

It would be nice if Starbuck had Bluetooth Inet!!!

Double nice if I could get my POP3 e-mail this way. I'll try and report back.

Posted by: Raven

Yeah, the pop3 e-mails is the one thing I cannot figure out how to download through BT..

Posted by: dapope

ahhh, this stuff is so frustrating sometimes, when in the cradle, opera connects via my pc's cable line, when i try it out of the cradle, i only see options for gprs, csd, and wap, this suxs. no bluetooth option on mine. im beginning to hate bt

Posted by: LRLR

This is getting off topic but the POP3 would not connect through the desktop via USB even though Opera did.

When you tried to connect Opera through BT be sure it is paired and active before loading Opera?

Posted by: Raven

I'm sure there must be a way to download e-mails through BT too, hell I can even use the P800 built-in browser through BT with a little "tweaking"...

Posted by: dapope

LRLR what bt device are u using? with which os? , i've tried 3com, tecom, and belkin on both w2k and xp with no success, they pair and work fine with my ipaq 3970, but, the p800 is just a big pain , and , the xp was a clean install

Posted by: dapope

i just sent a photo via bt to my pc, i then went to opera to connect, and the only options that come up are the gprs, wap and csd, dam
the p800 is paired with my pc, but , even tho i was able to send the photo to the pc, in the connection manager of the pc, the p800 shows up and un discovered device

Posted by: Raven

And you have an active internet connection your PC, right? Do you have a firewall?

Posted by: dapope

yes, i use a linksys router, but, i normally can send files to my pc via bt, if i play around with it long enough

Reconnect and try running Opera again.

You MUST initialise the BT connection from your PC and NOT from the P800 by beaming a file over. Beaming a file from your phone to your PC doesn't mean that you've initialised a BT connection. This must be done from your PC by for example double klicking on the Mrouter icon and checking the com port you use.

when i try using opera without being in the cradle, i get 'connect to internet' and, then drop down menu appears giving the gprs, att, csd options, no bluetooth

I don't think you have made a proper BT serial connection...
Do you see a little blue P800 icon on the bottom right corner of your PC?

Posted by: dapope

nope, just the 3com bt manager thingy. i've paired this numerous times, and it goes thru successfully on the phone, however , the 3com manager usually says undiscovered device.and, i am able to send to the pc, if i try it a few times

Well, you should have the P800 icon there, when you're connected, if you're using the PC-suite. If you're using PC-suite, try initialising the BT connection the way I discribed above(by double clicking mRouter and unchecking-checking the com ports)

If you're not using PC-suite, I suggest you download it from SE site or install the CD that came with your P800.

Posted by: LRLR

Dapope I am using Win 2000 Pro, with the Xircom Realport2 BT adapter on a Thinkpad. I am using the new download of SE PCSuite(1.1.1). Be sure to check the readme file which is probably in C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Mobile. It has specific instructions for many adapters.

did anyone using opera in p800 login to hotmail yet? I mean the regular webmail hotmail, not the mobile hotmail. when I sign in, it just show up a URL, no web page or anything. just white background and a URL. anyone success? please teach me if you are success. thanks.

I connected to my hotmail account...First time it said there is a certificate that I have to accept or reject...I accepted but nothing happened...The second time after turning my phone off it connected without any problem...There is nothing to teach as it did it all by it self(Opera)...I even connected to Howard's Forum, www.runbox.com and a ringtone site called http://www.exactmobile.co.za ...Which didn't let me download any thing because the site thought I was using a PC and not a mobile...

Did it send you a warning that an unknown certificate has been received?...I accepted it and then I was able to log on...

I just logged on to www.hotmail.com

When you get a warning screen about an unknown certificate...Accept it and you can log on as well...
