Looks like I'm going to have to leave the big orange Jack we have all come to know and love
After all my time as a CSR for Cingular they are unwilling to work with my college schedule and therefore my options are limited. You see, my call center is only open till 8 and I get off of school around 4:30 or so. With all the hours I can work in a week, it comes out to about 26 hours total. Sure, it's not great but I'm a college student making my way to bigger and better things (I hope).
Anyway, they don't want to approve my schedule since I'd be working 3 hrs a day from Monday to Thursday, 5 hours on Friday, and about 9 hours on Saturday. 26 total hours. They said they want me there AT LEAST 36 hours a week. So I make a call to a connection in HR and I find out they are about to give away part time schedules to people. Their part time is 25 hrs a week! I can work 1 hr more than that but the reason they don't want to let me is because of the way my schedule is set up.
I'm ****ing pissed that I can meet their "25 hour minimum requirement" for part time but just because I can only do it in the span of 6 days in small intervals as opposed to 5 hours a day Monday - Friday, they don't want to work with me
They say the "line requirements" need to be met. ****, last semester I was working 24 hours a week and prior to this semester in the summer I was only at 32 a week and they pull this crap where they need me at least 36 hrs a week. Ever since they raised our pay there have been a lot of us veterans that have quit due to ******** like this. Now that almost everyone gets paid the same they think that we are disposable and we are a dime a dozen. while that may be true, they'd rather let go of someone who has been here for a long time, does the job right as oppsed to hire someone for almost the same pay rate and take them months upon months to get the flow right of calls and get to the level of the vet CSRs.
So basically these are my options. I can stay and just go into work when I want which I did last semester and didn't get any crap about it but also risk being fired for my schedule adherance and never have the chance to go back, since I am now on their radar.... or I can just quit, leave on ok terms, find another job and just get more money from college to help me get by this semester.
I'd rather keep my job as much as I hate it but I think I should just quit and get a different job. Perhaps selling Cingular at a COR store, haha. What you guys think?

take this from an "Old" guy who has been through life.
F THEM if they are not willing to work with your schedule. What kind of a F up company won't accomodate someone trying to make something better with his life? Do they thing Cingular is your career and you'll die with jack Splat tattooed across your chest?
Bottomline is they have spent plenty of time and money training you, if THEY want to throw it away let them. It will reflect in the poorer customer service their customers will get adn cause more people to leave.
YOU are too good to work in these type of conditions. go out and get a better job and continue your education. Life is too short to sweat the BS that tries to hold you back.I am truly shoched that a HUGE company like this would not be flexible with you.
Good Luck

How long have you been there? Sounds like you probably have some sort of seniority to throw around and get your way. Call your union rep. I'd say quit too, but you've got plenty of options, and for a part time college job, I bet the call center pays pretty well.
But as the last guy said, f a crappy job. Its never worth putting up with anyone's BS regardless of anything. I left jobs that paid much more than I make at Cingular because (although it took a while) I realized that my sanity > money (not like working in a Cingular store is particularly sane, but its better than a lot of other retail jobs).

Well what sucks is that we are not a union. But you're right, they do pay pretty good for a part time college job. I could take a job elsewhere and although they would be flexible I would lose the great pay.
But at the same time, if these people are unwilling to work with me than I fell I shouldn't work for them. I could try selling Cingular at a store though... I'm prerry sure I have a good chance of getting hired and I hear that working at a store can pay pretty well.
As for my job, I already talked to the highest guy there is that I can talk to as well as called in a favor from HR and the Branch Manager is still unwilling to work with me. I was debating whether to just keep working everyday and see how long it would ake them to fire me. Although my chances of coming back wouldn't be that great, I could still try for unemployment and hit them up for that while I finish this semester at school, haha!
Or I could just quit and get my college to give me more money to survive until next semester.... I don't know what to do yet... my fiancee says I should just quit and she would help me out through the rest of this year but I would hate to put her through that.
Either way, my last day at Cingular would be great knowing that I don't plan to come back, haha. I guess the question is whether I want to ever go back to working for this company or not. If yes, leave on good terms and quit. If no, keep going to work while missing a lor of schedule and just wait till the fire me.... decisions.... I'm lost.. AAHHHHH!

don't burn bridges.

let them fire you so you can at least get some unemployment

remember that getting fired from Big Orange can adversley (sic) affect you getting hired any where good after college.
big companies will frown on a termination from a big company like Cingular.
my advice:
put in a notice and bow out respectfully, get help from your fiancee (trust me one day you will repay her for her help. its called maternity and providing a good home to raise a family) and find a good job that flows with your schedule.
COR stores won't bring you in because they typically close between 7-8pm so same problem there.
Chin up.... at least you have college!

I work full time in a store and my manager is very good about working with my school schedule.

If you can find a job as a cor consultant in a mall store, they usually close around 9 or 10.

i agree with a few of the people here that say work part-time at a corp. store. With commission you'll make as much (if not more) than what some people make at a full time job elsewhere.
plus management in a store are alot more flexible than call centers. Not to toot my own horn, but i worked at the call center for 7 months and had a hard time trying to get the schedule i want. Now that i'm back at the store, my manager does everything she can to try to accomodate my class schedule. And I work full-time. Think of how much easier it will be if you were part-time.

Well, it looks like I might get to keep my job for a while longer.
I have one more person that I asked for help and she says she can do it since she got some guy that can only work 20 hrs approved.
Let's see what happens.... Although my fiancee said she will help and I do plan to pay her back she also wants me to keep this job since I'll be getting my raise in a few more months and my vacation time as well. Once that happens I'm taking a month off from work during finals week and then to realx!
Ok... now I gotta wait....
