Mobile IM and Airtime?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

On the second day of the billing cycle, August 17th, I signed on Mobile IM and I didn't know it used airtime. I was signed on for about 4 hours until I called Verizon and they said it uses airtime. My plan only has 500 minutes and I share it with others so I was afraid I'd go over the limit. Now its August 23rd, and when I check my minutes used on my Cell (There is a button you press and it takes you online (airtime free) and lets you look at account stuff), it doesn't have the airtime I used on Mobile IM under the minutes.

I always thought airtime was minutes. How come it isn't showing up yet? Will I be charged those minutes eventually? Please help asap. I also had Verizon send me a text message with my minutes and it doesn't have the airtime I used on Mobile IM.

Maybe the Verizon person was wrong and it doesn't use airtime? I know it charges for text messages.

If it matters, I have a Samsung SCH-A950.

Can anyone answer this?

Do you have a vcast package? If so it includes this airtime useage. Otherwise I'd check online and see if the airtime showed up undernon-peak(What time and what day did you use these minutes? If you used it on a weekend or after 9pm then it wouldn't count towards yours 500 minutes).

Mobile IM Does not use minutes, all commands ( logging in / off ) use txt msgs.

But I called Verizon and they said twice that it uses airtime. I started using it at 8AM on a Monday. But I just checked my usage on my phone and it still doesn't have it.

I'm confused about this also. I read a review about the 8300 and it said:

Quote:
Offered by Verizon Wireless, Mobile IM supports the most popular instant messaging platforms to allow customers to access AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), MSN Messenger, and Yahoo! Messenger platforms in real-time. Preinstalled on the VX8300, users can keep in touch with friends and family on the road. Data charges may apply.

edit:
as for the text message and web check you did for your minutes, I've noticed it is very behind the regular website is.

Just also found this link that says GIN apps use airtime while this link says mobile im uses your "bucket" of messages.

Quote:
*Instant Messages are charged just like TXT Messages so you can use your TXT Messaging package or 'pay as you go'. Instant Messages are not included as IN messages in any Unlimited Messaging bundle.

So does it use both msg's and airtime??
