(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Ive seen numerous people looking for help with ringtones, So I wrote this up and took it from it's original Thread buried deep.
--------------------------------------------
LG VX-8500 Ringtone guide.

Step 1:
Install your LG VX-8500 Drivers from the Music essentials Kit.
Step 2:
Download and install BitPim
Step 3:
Attach your Phone to your Usb cable.

Step 4:
Obtain ringtone. I have been using mhe77's site and its awesome! Thank you mhe77!
If you want to make your own: follow This guide.
Ringtones are reccomended to be 30 seconds or less.

Step 5:

Attach phone to usb cable, let windows pick it up and install the drivers.
Run bitpim, it should detect your phone as an other CDMA phone on comX
See Picture here for this.
Now, Go to Edit - Settings and in the Phone Type Dropdown, Choose LG-VX8300

You are now ready to slap up some ringtones to your VX-8500.

On the left hand side of BitPim, Expand Phone, then expand Media.
See that Ringers folder on the left? Thats where We are putting our ringtones. Example

So right click (or you can drag an mp3 here) and select Add.
Find your mp3 that you want to upload.

Now a new window will pop up with converting options like this

Just hit Convert and a dos window will pop up re-encoding the file.

once it is done, (took my pc a whopping 5 seconds to do)
You will be brought back to the same window. Down in the lower right, Click OK

You will be brought back to the main screen, and your Ringtone will be There.

Now the final step is to upload it to your phone.
in the top left corner click the Send data to phone button.

it will ask you what you want to send, Select Select ringtone and hit OK
Thats it!
You now have a ringtone on your phone.
Unplug your usb cable, hit menu > settings and tools > Sound settings > Call Sounds > Call rintone > All Calls and you can choose your new ringtone there.

This is how I have been doing it without any problems at all.

Enjoy.
(if anyone wants to repost this, but with the pictures inline, feel free.)

heres the way easier method to get mp3 tones from your computer to your phone...

1. find whatever mp3 tone song clip that you have.

2. open what ever email account you use.

3. compose a message to your10digitphonenumber@vzwpix.com and add an attachment which will be your ringtone. hit send.

4. when message is received, hit "options" and select "save as ringtone". and VOILA! you have an mp3 ringtone without having to possibly screw up your phone with bitpim.

Hey this actually worked! But does anyone know if we get charged for it to be sent to our phone? Any airtime fees or any other fees I should know about before I continue sending alot? Thanks

No plan here...how much is a pix message is it the same as 10 cents a text message?

I love this forum. Fast responses. Now how do we delete the ringtones that we saved?

trying it with the email worked, but the quality isnt great and the volume is pretty low. any suggestions, or suggestions on free mp3 editors? i sent it as a mp3, would it be better if it was another type of file?

What was your bitrate of your mp3 when you sent it? It sounds fine to me. But if you need to add quality or cut the audio I use fairstars audio converter and mp3cutter to cut.

to get the bitrate quality of a real song, set the time of the song to under 30 secs. 29.9 or less. i have figured it out thru T&E.

Trim to 30 seconds or less (because after 30 seconds, the call ends up in voice mail anyway) and encode as Contstant Bit Rate 48kbit/44khz/mono mp3's... this will keep them under 300kbytes in file size...
