Questions for Samsung D807 users

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Have some questions:

1. Do you need to slide open the phone to answer the phone?

2. Do you need to slide open the phone to make a call?

3. With bluetooth can you download pictures and upload mp3s to the phone?

4. How is reception? According to phone scoop. People hate it or love it.

5. Can you charge the phone in the car and use the bluetooth headset?

I am leaning to getting this phone. Seems like the best thing Cingular has out right now.

yeah

1. you CAN answer it when it's closed, however the receiver picks up the speaker so your caller hears a freaky echo. it's better having it open.
2. if you need to dial, then of course. however it's possible to connect to someone via the contact list. but the issue becomes that of question 1
3. yep.
4. Reception is alright, but i've had a lot better. Then again, I've had a lot worse. so goes either way. if your phone has amazing reception, dont expect it to live up. but it's not that bad.
5. if you mean both at the same time, I'm not sure. I believe so.

wait, so you mean if you don't open the slider you go to speakerphone immediately? Wierd.

PS I love how people just answer the question without all the facts up front.

No, I have no idea what they are talking about. I think since the speaker is now closer to the reciever, i guess. When its closed just press the Accept button and then talk like regular. You can go into speakerphone from there if need be.

Posted by: bluesman78

i was just asking because the other poster said there is a horrible echo...

do you have to unlock the keypad to answer a call?

mine don't go automatically into speakerphone when the phone is still closed. I just press "accept" and it does fine.

As for the volume on the speaker, it's adequate volume to me. I must have one that has updated software. I had it for over 2 weeks and the phone works flawlessly and has one of the best batteries I have ever seen on a Samsung phone.

Is the problem with the speakerphone or the earpiece? I never use speakerphone. How is volume for bluetooth headsets?

Whoops, yeah I apologize for not being very clear. What I meant to say is, you can answer the phone when the slider is closed, however I wouldn't reccomend it since the mic picks up sounds from the ear-part (i dont know the technical term. it's the part where you listen to the person on the other line), so the person on the other line hears a creepy echo of their own voice. This would be because of how close the mic is to the ear-part, so if you open the phone you wont get this problem because of the increased distance.

it doesn't go to the speakerphone directly when the slider is closed.

that more clear? haha, it might be worse

Well no one that has ever talked to me on my phone has said anything about an echo. When the slider is open the mic is only about 2 inches farther away.

Its also funny with all the complaints about the speaker volume being low(i have no problem with it), yet its loud enough to cause an echo on the other end (again, not seen this problem), wierd.

Man, I think I am just going to get this phone. I mean it's the only cool phone out there that Cingular has. Some people say the RF sucks, some say it's good enough. A lot say the earpiece is loud enough, some say it isn't. Some say the phone is being recalled...

I only get one discount for my transition from TDMA to GSM so I want ot make it count. I doubt if I return the phone they will give me the same credit on another phone. .

I jus twant to avoid getting a razor. Everyone has one of those. But maybe that's the reason

Posted by: motoho580

I used one. The RF is the worst i have ever used on a phone. The volume is also horrible. My suggestion is to find something else. I don't know what that might be, but IMO, anything but the D807. It may be the coolest phone out for cingular right now, but just because it looks pretty doesn't mean it works pretty.

Posted by: beazty327

motoho580 probably got a lemon because mine gets prefect RF and the volume is sufficient.

Posted by: motoho580

Maybe so, but read through the CIngular Phones forum, some people agree with me..

Beazty327 i'm glad your's works. I loved that phone.

Posted by: bluesman78

a lot of people agree with Moto. Phonescoop/Amazon... Its' pretty consistent along with RAZR's earpiece issue. I'm not a smart guy but I have a rough idea of how to fix the RAZR problem within 2 minutes of googling

I have the phone since last two weeks and it works just fine.
Reception is excellent. my wife has Black RAZR and I get signal everywhere my wife's RAZR has!

Speaker/earpiece volume is loud enough for me to talk when I drive.
Colors are bright and vivid with a big TFT screen.

Only down-side is : LCD remains on while the phone is being charged...but I am sure some geek would be just there to find a tweek to this problem.

Great phone overall...I am loving it...and at times, many RAZR owners envy this toy !!

Posted by: jjmc2000

Both my daughter and I have had the 807 since the first week they came out and have no complaints. Earpiece volume is fine and RF is comparable to my Nokia and her old RAZR. Great user interface. The rest of the Cingular phones are boring. Nokia is way behind the curve with Cingular

Posted by: drose224

Picked it up on 9/08/2006.

RF is great and the volume is fine for me.
