MPT with usb cable speed

I just started using MPT with my E815 using a usb data cable and the transfer speed btw my computer and phone is really slow. When copying a song it taked several minutes to do it. Is it due to my laptop itself or is it the usb cable that is slow? would it be faster if I did the connection over BT? By the way I have a ****** toshiba satellite
