E61 Email Notification

I finally got my E61 to work with my BB connect. I was just wondering if there's something in the setting that i need to change so that it will say how many "new messages" i have in my inbox. thanks in advance.
In addtion, is there a way to change the display image on the desktop? at the moment it is the default setting to grid. i would prefer to have it as a list.
