mp3 tracks as ringtones

I was wondering if there is a way to set the music from your walkman onto the ringtunes on the Ericsson W300i. It seems that Rogers wants you to buy the ringtunes instead of put on your own.

any help would be great

thx

can you not upload mp3's to the phone then "use as ringtone" ?

Posted by: paul.john

no, my provider has put some blocker on so I cant use them as a ringtune.

It needs to be modified somehow...

Yep, same with my Rogers W810i.
The only way to get around that is to use the "DRM Packager" to make your desired MP3 into a DRM coded one. Or get your phone debranded.

sweet thanks. I downloaded the DRM packager, it still isn't allowing me to put songs as my ringtune, there must be some sort of options I have to go through to make it work.

i have the w600i and i have no problem setting my mp3's as ringtones.
i just go into the file manager and find the song that i want, click more, and set as > ringtune.

Yeah, my W810i from rogers also blocks using mp3 ringtunes. I think what we need to do is either get that feature unlocked somehow, or convert mp3 to midi? if possible?

You can unbrand your phone which will allow you to use mp3s as ringtones. Costs about $10 and takes about 10-15 mins. Easy as pie. Do a search.

Unbranded it, and I love this phone even more than I did before. Thanks guys

I've got the Sony Ericsson W810i too, with the same problem (stupid rogers), where did you find the unlocking thing, and how much did you pay? cuz i'm getting so frustrated with not being able to do what i know the phone is supposed to be capable of doing. Any help would be great!

I don't have the phone, but have you guys tried to rename the file extension to .3gp and upload it in that format instead if .mp3 format to get around the DRM lock like how the Samsung T809 users did it for their T-Mobile branded phones? Not sure if it'll work for the W810 but it worked on my T809. Somebody should try it.

Sweet, thanks a lot everyone, I hope I can get it working pretty soon. Just another question. If you unbrand your phone, does it affect your payment methods? Are you still on the rogers plan or do you have to do a "pay as you go thing..."

if u mean the 'unbranding' thing, just go into the SE main forum and its one of the sticky threads...detailed instructions on how to flash your phone...just go on there and it gives step by step instructions on what to do.

I suggest all of you who can't set mp3's as ringtones to de-brand them. It's a complete waste of time using a branded phone, cuz all the providers like to disable many features, which makes the phone utterly useless

Just a thought hehe

Posted by: paul.john

what are the disadvantages to de-branding your phone?? will all my bills be screwed up now or what? will it make any Major changes for me?

Posted by: hergeek

what program did you use to debrand the phone? does it affect my service with rogers?

Posted by: pkjr703

will this program work with a MAC?

I'd say your chances of converting an mp3 to a midi file are pretty slim to none. Just get your phone debranded, it only costs like 40 bucks anyways.

i just tried renaming an mp3 file as 3pg. The file became invisible on the phone, so i changed it back.

Flash your phone with Wotan for like $9

Maybe it's me, but unbranding from Davinci caused a config error on my phone. Fortunately, the local Cingular store allowed me to swap it. They said they would allow that only once, next time send it back to SE.
