Sharp vs Motorola..?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: besharp

What do you guys think about sharp compared to motorola phones esp the "PEBL" and that "ROKR" -.-

I have a friend who is bragging about motorola and how it's so much better than that sharp brand. well.. i was just wondering what he sees in motorola

compared to it by features appearance and performance wise..

+ he totally just said the 903 904 and the rest is all < than motorola.

RAWRR, can't believe it. i want to send the PEBL back to its pebble buddies down on the beach! anyhow. ha. i'm just curious

Posted by: extracrunchie

you have got to be kidding me, motorola has nothing over sharp or any other company for that matter

Posted by: jay_spec

has your friend owned any phone other than a moto? after owning one myself before, i'll never go back. their cameras blow and i really dont see how a pebl is even in the same class as a sharp.

i guess the black 904 sort of looks like a bigger pebl with the black cover, the chrome top part and the blue external screen

Posted by: Desert_Fox

You stone him with real PEBL's at him and slice his tongue off with a RAZR for speaking such blasphemy.

The only good thing that I see in Motorolas is the ability to customize your phone with seem edits and flashes and flexes. But to compare it to a Sharp... tsk tsk tsk, he hasn't been enlightened yet.

Posted by: besharp

Ya those were the answers i was looking for haha. As for what phone he owns.. i don't think i should even say it in this forum, or in public for that matter.

this is a joke right?
moto's don't stand a chance in dependability or features....
the only thing that one could say they have going for them is some of their innovative physical forms...

put it this way to your friend....

moto's are like the Mercedes Benz models made in the USA

....

sharps are like....
those more recent Lotus Elise.... (european inspired, but the heart is powered by japanese made goodness ie:toyota) vodafone and sharp respectively

lol thats actually rating the moto a little too high.........moto is more like ford haha

Posted by: Maikurukun

lol.. OMG when i saw this thread.. i thought.. let the moto bashing begin..

but seriously.. moto suck. lol.
who wants a ugly *** razor.. which it seems every non-asian 20-30 male seems to have...

lol.. moto is like general motors. haha.. --> ford makes very reliable cars... GM.. not so much.

Posted by: cb0288

Well i had a razor, slvr l7 and some nextel moto phone's and i must say i hate the os in those phones. I dont want to get into details about it but when i got my 1st sharp phone, moto phones just sucks!

Don't normally weigh into brand vs brand debates personally, but Motorolas have nothing against Sharps except perhaps design (and that's in the eye of the beholder anyway). The Motorola user interface is the most poorly piece of phone software I have EVER used, and I've used a lot, being a phone reviewer. What amazes me is after so many years of the same user interface, I STILL see it in slightly changed versions in their current phone lineup. The settings menus are all over the place; until the V3x I couldn't find how to copy all contacts between phone and SIM; sending a file over Bluetooth involves you having to 'copy' or 'cut' the file before you get the Bluetooth option, etc etc. Motorola just doesn't know what ergonomics means, and please, iTap is a complete pain in the $%#. After all these years, it still can't put an 's' after an apostrophe automatically. How hard is this? (Just use T9 Motorola, please.)

This is on top of the fact that it took them from the T730 days until the V3x to get a decent camera installed in their phones (I'm not talking about megapixels, I'm talking about a camera module that can actually imprint colour properly). Now you look at Motorola, and ALL they are successfully selling are RAZR phones or some derivative of them. Even the new phones they announced the other week for the first time in months, were all based on the RAZR. Can't they design anything else?

Just to attempt to be balanced, Sharps aren't perfect either. In the GX days the interface was based on Voda's horrible red theme (and couldn't be changed), the phones themselves were bigger than the competition (although they were fine for me), early Bluetooth implementations were rubbish, text input was slow as hell (and T9 couldn't store custom words) and they've always been operator branded to a particular network depending on the country.

Except for the operator branding and bulk (in some cases), all the above problems are fixed now. I own a 903, and it's a great phone. Despite the bulk and lack of external screen it does everything for me - phone, digicam-grade camera, early digicam-grade camcorder, music player, internet browser, organiser and primitive game machine. Apart from smartphone functionality (which I don't like anyway), what more can you ask for?

In fairness the V3x has done much to modernise Moto's handsets, but the modern Sharp phone user interface is excellent now, menus are consistent and fast, T9 works like a charm (and stores custom words), everything is where it should be, and the hardware is just better anyway.

Hope that summarises it all (and if you want a detailed review on the 903, please take a look at the website from my www link below )

besharp- You should ask this question in the Motorola forum as well, I'm sure some of the replies would be absolutely hilarious.
I am sure that Motorola makes some fine products but for some bizarre reason a majority of their fan base seems to have succesfully evolved from cavemen but have fallen way short of modern day humans.

I have gone from SE to moto to Nokia and finally to sharp. And the moto is by far the worst out of the four. I really pay a lot of attention to the OS, a logical layout and ease of use. The moto OS is just terrible for all the reasons AL mentioned. its so hard to find anything if you are thinking logically. The SEs have by far the best menu. yes yes noka has symbian...but i dont have use for it...so im talking about the non-symbian os on nokia. I was pleasantly surprised to see the sharp os/menus very similar to SE and I seriously feel they have had a lot of "inspiration" from sony.

I have some gripes with sharp os...but moto doesnt even come close...its simply terrible. I have used the v400 and my friends v3i and its the same ugly crap

Sharp VS Moto??????? Ur kidding right.........?? Yesh u are....... awwww..... ur making me laugh now...... dont do that next time....... hahahaha.... pls tell me ur kidding...... HHAHAHAHa..... Sharp VS Moto??? HAHA.... Sharp VS Moto... aww crap im cryin already..

Posted by: Havo

lolz... Moto is somewhat behind in terms of innovation. They do make really appealing phones in terms of aesthetics but lack in almost every other department. The only thing that makes their phones remotely decent is quad-band and their forms. Sharp wins hands down and so does almost every otehr manufacturer for that matter. Moto kinda just caters to the NA market more with their phones. They make them affordable for the avg. person who doesnt spend more than $99 on a phone (ie. RAZR on 3yr contract).

haha you're right. i should do that. ehmm maybe later.

i think my friend is just undereducated on phones or something. AHH if only he knew the greatness of Sharp.

Posted by: fryrice8850

I've used some moto phones, and they have horrible reception, build quilaity, and they have to be a little bit up to date with the market. And all i know is their phonebook system sucks! I can't just see my sim numbers or phone mem numbers! and u would have to change it to store it 500 or above to save to sim. And besharp has ur friend seen ur sharp phone? if he hasn't hes missing a lot! from screen size to UI.

lolz... just show him ur 904 and leave him drooling for a Sharp...

Posted by: aychseven

i've owned a few motos and used plenty in my time. hated every last one. build quality and materials are crap, the OS is always terrible, their cameras are garbage... though i never cared for it, i'll admit they had a good thing with the razr; it got a lot of people talking and wanting that phone. i think that people who are moto fanboys probably never do research on phones or look at whats sold outside of their local cingluar or t-mobile store. probably have never used a modern phone from sharp or se either. whatever horrible thing has afflicted their brains is probably the same thing that keeps people buying cars from gm

Posted by: azn_boi_128

moto razr is da bomb!

okay its not
a razr is a 86 civic with 13" hubcap spinners calling it "pimping"

a 903 is a Mercedes Benz S600 has all the luxury, style, character and tons of go sure it comes with a price but like car and driver said " best car in the world " well to a lot of us sharp phones is the best phone in the world.

-jimmy an obsessive sharp owner.... i am i got pretty much all the sharp phones... its scary ask tim =D "sharp manic"

As azn... made the perfect comparison I will humbly throw in my own photo version of a similar comparison;

This is a Sharp mobile:

This is a RAZR:

funny thing is, there was a thread like this in both sections of the board before.

the sharp section preferred sharp to motorola about 99:1

and the motorola section preferred sharp to motorola about 2:1

4) will have a rotatable screen just for the heck of it, and a 3.2MP camera
5) forget about typing sms/emails on the jap f/w of this one... haha
6) still make all those palm/blackberry users jealous...

i would've imagined that this thread would have died down by now.... why is this conversation still going on? i think it's been made really clear..

There's just no comparison. SHARP is as everyone who knows their mobile gadgetry know that they are ahead by leaps and bounds from all of the competition ESPECIALLY from MOTOROLA in terms of design, quality, and function. Indeed there's just no comparison.

The RAZR is a product of excellent marketing, at least in the US anyway.
You simply cannot walk down the street without seeing someone using one.
Okay it was really cool when it was released but really it's only because there hasn't been anything out in the US that took the country by storm prior to that, the only one that came out that made jaws drop is a NOKIA slider I believe it had a monochrome screen dot matrix If I can recall it. Anyways personally NOKIA is overrated IMO. Although I wouldn't mind owning a N93

Anyways you can also add SLVR L7 in to the mix. Another product of excellent marketing. It's basically another RAZR with few tweaks, and of course the ability to play MP3's finally at least in the US. Woopdeefrickin'doo!
to the Japanese, and UK markets, but to the US market the joy of the American mobile consumers echoes that of when the Model T was invented by Henry Ford.
Oh and of course the fact that it has finally a memory card expansion slot is nothing short of spectacular again at least to the US market.

I guess the discrepancy here fellas is the market. MOTOROLA caters more to the mobile obsolete that is the US market, while SHARP caters to the more extravagant, more advanced mobile techies in Japan, and the UK.

Let's see the US mobile market in terms of mobile technology is like the Dark Ages pre-Renaissance while the UK, and especially the Japanese mobile technology is like well the present technology that currently exist in Japan, and the UK.

In short, SHARP Phones like the 705SH, 902SH, 903SH, 904SH, & the WCDMA only 905SH is like the Aston Martins, Rolls Royce, Bentleys, Ferraris, and the Lambo's while MOTOROLA, and many other mobile companies out there are like Civics, Focuses, Mustangs, Camrys, BMW's, and Benz's. There is huge gap in difference between the two.

As for me, I like trying all phones, but the RAZR has truly made me sick to my stomach. Although I still use it only a rare occassion. Still, I belive SHARP is the company that so far answers all of the most savviest mobile techies!!!

Go SHARP!!!
