Need Help Using Bitpim to Import Contacts from Yahoo Contacts

I'm so tired and frustrated, I pray someone will take pity on my technologically sorry ***.

I just got the new Verizon LG Vx8500 and hooked it up to my pc with $30 USB cable. I had no problems getting Bitpim to recognize my phone as Vx8300 (followed excellent instructions from this forum to manually configure). I am experimenting with EXPORTING my Yahoo contacts to my desktop and then IMPORTING that file into Bitpim. The problem is that, no matter how many different formats I try, the imported data is basically displayed as gibberish in the Bitpim preview screen. In turn, I cannot sync this gibberish with my phone. So I guess my real problem is that I do not know how to FORMAT the contact info that I am importing into Bitpim. Yahoo contacts had all sorts of info (such as addresses, notes, etc.) that I don't need to makes it way into the new phone. If possible to add emails and perhaps notes, that's great, but if not, I really don't care (this is not a PDA phone, after all). Can anyone help me to get at least the basic contact info from Yahoo over to my phone (i.e., for each person at least full name and 3 phone #'s is probably good enough)?

BTW, in case you are wondering, why don't I just upload the info from my old phone into Bitpim? B/c I left my phone old Cingular phone in a cab and it's history. Now all I have is the info saved in my Yahoo contacts.

BTW, this forum rules!

I just messed around with it a bit and I think you should be able to export from yahoo by choosing the microsoft outlook export option. this should compile all your addresses into a .csv file. Save the file somewhere to your computer. You can then go into bitpim and import csv contacts, choose the file, then follow the isntructions on that dialog. basically you need to choose what you want all the different columns to equate to. seemed fairly straightforward on that part. use bitpim help or come back here if you have problems.

if that doesn't work, you may have some data in your contacts that are messing up the formatting of the rest of the info or something. I dunno. good luck.

Bronsoja,

Thank you very much, I figured it out (was out of town for a while). It was pretty simple. My problem was that I failed to realize that the first option available for each column is "ignore" which was all I needed to select to get rid of the information which my phone would not accept.
