Comments from a new user of P800

I recently bought a P800 and I thought I'd share some comments.

As background, I previously used an iPAQ (3870), T68i, HBH-15 with MCA-25 camera.
I have also used Palms, other PocketPCs, integrated Thera (1xRTT) and RIM devices in the past.

Here is what I miss from my previous configuration:

1) Ability to VPN directly to my corporate email server;
2) Ability to use Avantgo;
3) Ability to play MP3s from large SD cards;
4) Pocket Streets
5) A little bit "slower" in user response
6) Sync with my PC is slower.
7) Lack of profiles and ability to have a silent mode without the vibration
(and still have vibration in non silent mode).

I am sure the eventually all but #3 will be resolved with future Software upgrades.

Here is what is better with the P800 thus far for me (over my previous configuration):

1) GPRS connection time is faster and download of email is faster;
2) Email application is more functional (especially the ability to schedule downloads)
This alone almost makes its a RIM killer (other than the battery life and
ability to do server-side email forwarding)
3) Writing emails using the stylus is easier via the use of the full screen
4) The convergence factor is amazing - just one device now to carry.
The integrated phone with contacts is a killer.
5) Flexibility and ease of taking a picture and emailing out is unbeatable.
6) Reception does seem better.
7) The Opera browser on the P800 is the best available on any handheld device today.
8) The polyphonic ringer is great.
9) The jog dial is extremely useful.
10) Ability to have a speakerphone mode.
11) Ability to download and read attachments (over GPRS).
I always found it amusing that this wouldn't work
(i.e a convertor was required which wasn't possible when mobile) with MSFT based software
12) and of course the "Wow" factor

Here are some "bugs" (tolerable for now) that I have to live with:

1) I can't seem to connect via CSD from the P800.
2) I need to ensure that I wait 5 seconds (or so) from hang-up with the
BT HBH-15 headset and before initiating the next call from the BT headset.
Doing otherwise will disable voice dialing.
I think this is specific to older BT headsets, since no one else seems to be
having this issue.
3) Some app crashes have been observed (when multiple apps are in progress)
and connected to GPRS.

All in all, the P800 has easily surpassed my expectations. I was previously skeptical about an all-in-one device, however, SE has pulled it off. This device will only get much better as the software from both SE and 3rd parties quickly matures. Think about how the T68m evolved into the T68i via software upgrades only). I predict that the maturity will only be much more dramatic and quicker with the P800.
