VX8500: external speaker distortion with playback of ringtones?

OK, I'm having a problem with distortion when playing back some ringtones on the speaker's highest setting. It's not clipping as the mp3 files through my computer or other device sound fine. I'm incoding with LAME @ 64 kbits/second and the output sampling frequency is at 16kHz. If I turn the speaker down a bit the distortion is reduced or eleminated, but my ringtones aren't very loud to begin with so I want to keep it on the loudest. Does anyone else have a problem with distortion? Does anyone have any setting adjustment advice for me? Do I need to put it through a low pass filter? I'm beginning to wonder if my speaker has been blown somehow. Advice?

I'm having the same problem...I've tried equalizing with audacity and it seems to help, but not quite right.

Suggestions please

Come on...there's got to be an audiophile hanging around this ringtone forum that has an idea of what, if anything, needs to happen to reduce this effect.

Anybody?

Can you post one of the ringtones you made?

I figured out how to fix the problem and make the ringtones sound 150% better! Well, for my phone and for my ringtones that is...
Actually one of my tones still distorts in one spot but all the others are fixed and even that one sounds so much better than before.
SpectralFx, I don't know what Output Sampling Frequency you have been using but I had been using 16khz. I was using that because I've read so many other comments from users stating that is the frequency they get good results with. Well, I just re-encoded my tones from the original files and kept the bitrate at 64kbs but changed the sampling frequency to 44.1khz and OMG...they sound great! Much more clear and only the very slightest distortion if any. Another cool thing is the file size stays the same. Hope it works for you!

Wow that really made a difference, thanks buddy!

*Edit* I reconverted Fatboy Slim's Right Here Right Now, and Oakenfold's Ready Steady Go, and they both sound spectacular. The problem with these weboards is I can't buy ya a beer...
