It's Valentine's Day, I'm in love with the 5300!

I just picked up a Sanyo 5300. Being that it's Valentine's Day, I feel the need to say, I'm in love with this thing! Where has this beautiful baby been all my life?

I've had a lot of cell phones over the years, and I think this one has just jumped to the head of the class. I absolutely am totally psyched about every feature, the camera, picture caller id, wallpaper, the ringers, I could go on and on. The web is amazingly fast. I downloaded a couple of games, ringers and wallpaper in a matter of minutes. This may just be the best cell phone I've ever owned. I'm a little skeptical about the Sprint service, but it's getting a good signal in my house, and I'm even willing to sacrifice a bit of service level for a phone like this one.

I looked at some other camera phones and they just didn't compare. The Samsung V205, doesn't even support picture caller id or Java. I tried the Panasonic GD87 for a day and returned it. Its picture caller id is so small you can hardly read it. It's the size of the outer LCD photo on the 5300, but on the inside of the Panasonic. The 5300 does it all!

All in all I am one happy 5300 owner. I still have to keep Nextel but I think I'll find myself using the 5300 more and more.

While it's true that in some areas the Sprint service isn't superb... But if there is *any* company that will make a rock solid cell phone with superior features and AMAZING reception, it's Sanyo.

I've owned many (and I mean MANY cell phones) for Sprint, and Sanyo makes the best of the bunch... So if anything is going to do it, it's the 5300

Have fun with your phone...I got mine about 1.5 weeks ago (after having returned an original I got when it first came out with version 1.034 -- which had volume issues) and I am still dazed at how *awesome* this phone is

Yes, I went into the store with the intention of walking out with a A500, but the store manager (who was SO helpful) told me the only brand of phone he'd ever have with Sprint is Sanyo. He apparantly used to have the A500 and experienced poor service levels. Since switching to the 5300 he's noticed an large increase in service.

Glad you like your phone. I have a digital camera at home and didn't see the need to spend the extra money on the 5300 but I saw it on display and it looked nice. They were out of them when I got my Sanyo 4900. I feel the way about my 4900 that you do the 5300. I love vision and having my own ringers and wallpaper. Gets a great reception and has speaker phone. I play with my phone all the time at work on my breaks. Rose

As a sprint rep I always try to let my customers know the pluses and minuses on each of the phone Sprint sells...then I let them make the decision. I must say the Sanyo series phones are the best in my book. I think the 4900 is a great phone and even without the camera feature the 5300 is a solid phone in my book. One thing I ask the customers I help is ...look around our store and sell what phone you see the most on the employees hips.....SANYO......Everyone in my store has a 4900, 5150 or 5300 except the store manager who has a Samsung a500 but his wife has a 5300......

Yep, that's exactly what my experience was. Went in planning on buying the 500. The person who helped me told me Sanyo is the only brand to use on Sprint, and he had one on his hip to prove it.

Yes, the Sanyo 5300 is wonderful, but in order to get $250 in rebates I activated it as an Add-a-Phone rather than on my regular wireless phone number. I am afraid to cancel the Add-a-Phone and switch over the 5300 until the rebate checks come in, which may not be for another 1-1/2 months!

Since Circuit City probably has no way of checking the *current* status of a Sprint phone, I suppose the $200 CC rebate would not be endangered by a phone number change; but certainly the $50 Sprint rebate would.

lgmayka,

I see you have both the 5300 and the 500. Do you support the other claims that the 5300 gets far better reception on the Sprint network than the 500?

Just curious.

My experience is that:

1) The A500's reception improved somewhat with VI16

2) The 5300's reception is somewhat better than the A500's

3) The 4900's reception (at least with its latest firmware) is somewhat better than the 5300's.

I am basically quite satisfied with the 5300's reception, but I nevertheless have the naive hope that an eventual firmware update might improve it some more.
